Tim Yap and Divine Lee share five things to remember before owning a pet

Divine Lee and Tim Yap treat their pets like members of the family.

Nothing compares to being welcomed by your pet after a hard day's work.
To some, they are more than just cute, furry companions; they're part of the family.
So if you can't commit to taking good care of them and treating them like they're your babies, then do not own a pet.
Tim Yap and Divine Lee gave five tips.

1. Know your pets. Take time to research the needs and personalities of your pets.

The dogs, for instance, are more sociable, while cats are more introverted by nature.

Tim said, “You know sometimes, I like to play with [my cats] and when I play with them, they go.

"Sila yung tumatabi, it’s like they want their own space, which I like, because I’m like that too.

"I want my own space, my own time. I’m a closet loner…I like to be on my own too, so I understand that, ‘Gusto mo ng me time, sige mag-me time ka diyan.’

"Don’t judge, because some pets like the attention, some pets don’t.”

2. It’s not about the breed. As much as we humans hate it, our pets don’t like to be generalized, too.

Divine said, “Hindi totoo yung pag German Shepherd ganyan, pag Pomeranian ganyan. Like they have similar characteristics but hindi talaga sila susunod.

"Like I have a lot of Pomeranians, I have a lot of Shih Tzus, pero lahat sila iba-iba yung ugali, alam mo yun? Iba-iba yung gusto, same with pets.

Tim added, “Parang tao, di ba? You can’t generalize.”

3. Make time for them; make an effort. Tim put it this way, "You take care of another life.”

Divine further said, “Regardless how busy you are, hind yung binili mo lang 'tapos parang okay, toy.

"Ako nga, yung nabuntis yung aso ko, si Friction, that was Christmas season, drop everything.

"Mga birthday ng kaibigan ko, ‘Sorry di ako makapunta kasi iniintay ko manganak aso ko,’ and people actually understand like, ‘Sige, sige ok lang.’”

4. Keep your pets cool and hydrated. Heat can be fatal to our beloved felines and canines.

Divine’s important summer tip for pets: keep them hydrated.

"Sa akin ngayon, ha, yung ngayon na summer, yung tubig ng mga aso, it’s very important. Yung mga dogs na mabalahibo? Kung puwede niyong i-aircon, kung hindi, fan talaga.”

Or ask your pet groomer to give your dogs a trim.

Owners should also observe the behavior of their pets.

Divine said, “When you’re always with your dog you can see difference in their mannerism. Parang pagod na pagod siya sa init ngayon, so I think that’s one advice I could give to pet owners.”

5. Unconditional love. Let's reciprocate our pets' unconditional love and loyalty.

Tim said, “After a hectic day of deadline and all these things that you have to go to, when you’re with your pet, it’s just you and your pet and nothing else, just sharing love with each other.

“So, you know, it calms you down. I think I’ve become a more loving, compassionate understanding patient person when it comes to your pet.”

The host also noted, “Your pets give you such unconditional love. You should give them unconditional love back.”
