Rocco Nacino didn't realize it right away, but the pandemic triggered his anxiety.
With TV and film production on hold to curb the spread of COVID-19, Rocco lost his main sources of income and social interaction.
"I never realized that this whole thing, this whole pandemic actually affected me," the GMA-7 actor told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and select entertainment writers during a Zoom video interview last May 27, 2020.
He continued, "I went through anxiety pala.
"Ito na iyong main source of income ko—tapings, doing movies, being out there, doing mall shows.
"All of those may interactions sa mga tao and then, biglang nawala lahat."
Rocco had many worries during the quarantine.
He revealed, "May time din naiisip ko na, 'Hala, hindi na ako magkakaroon ng trabaho.'
"E, nagpapatayo pa ako ng bahay ngayon, so talagang naglalabas at naglalabas ako ngayon ng pera.
"Paano ngayon nawala lahat?"
Rocco admitted his girlfriend Melissa Gohing acted as his emotional "punching bag," taking in most of his worries during the quarantine.
"Naglabas ako ng saloobin. Nagwo-worry ako, 'Ano gagawin ko?' at 'May ibang way pa ba para kumita?'
"Siguro, mga a good two weeks iyon, pagbubugbog sa sarili ko.
"Na-realize ko talaga na kailangan ko talaga ng outlet."
Exploring new business ideas
Rocco then took a moment to reflect on his current situation.
"Ito talaga ang time na hahanapin mo ang niche mo in marketing and doing business," he said.
So far, Rocco has been exploring small business options, like gaming.
During the quarantine, the Kapuso talent tried out the mobile game Mobile Legends and began streaming his game sessions online.
Seeing that his Facebook page was gaining a sizeable following, Rocco considered monetizing it.
"That's one of the Plan Bs that I have," the actor said.
"May following naman ang Facebook page. Ngayon, I've applied to monetize iyong streaming na ito through games. Kahit maliit siya, at least meron."
He also began helping Melissa with her online plant shop.
"Ito iyong mga times na may time ka para sa sarili na, 'Ano pa ba gusto ko gawin aside from being an actor?'"
Other life realizations during quarantine
Rocco also realized that people forget to express their love and affection for the people around them, but the quarantine has changed that.
"We became closer to our loved ones through video calls. Napapadalas iyong pagsasabi ng ‘I love you,’ and that really means a lot."
He felt a bit ashamed that it took a pandemic for people to frequently express their love for family.
"That makes you really think, e. Bakit hindi ko sinasabi ito madalas noon, di ba? It took this pandemic para mangyari ito."
Rocco is the eldest son in this family.
He is close to his parents, Linda and Ralph.
He has a younger brother named Kyle.
