Yassi Pressman faced a major loss at the start of 2020.

Her father Ronnie passed away at the age of 90 on February 6, 2020.

Six months since his passing, Yassi and her sister Issa continue to honor the memory of their late father.

"We wanted to continue Dad's legacy of just being happy, and not only for us. Parang, gusto din naman namin na kami naman makapagpasaya ng mga tao," Yassi tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at the Nivea virtual event of August 7.

The ABS-CBN actress continues, "We just try to make everything still positive. I'm pretty sure lahat po nung nakaranas nung pinagdaanan po namin, sobrang mahirap.

"'Tapos, kung kailan pa kami nawalan, saka pa nawala buong mundo, parang ganun."

But Yassi has come to appreciate the extra family time that quarantine has brought to her and Issa.

"The pandemic was really a wake-up call for everyone. No one could expect what's happening to all of us right now.

"Kami, at home with me and my sister, parang it was the only opportunity that we actually had to just realize what was going on and to restart our lives again after what happened to us this year."

Yassi says she was reminded that she has "purpose" and "reason." In her words: "You're still breathing, there's still life."

yassi on caring for others and yourself

With their father gone, Yassi now takes full responsibility as head of the household.

The Kapamilya star says she's finding new joy in this new role.

She reveals, "During quarantine, one thing I was really, really proud of was being able to cook for the people at home.

"Kasi, my whole life, akala ko hindi ko talaga kaya, o bawal ako sa kusina, ganyan, kapag bata ka.

"And my dad doesn’t know how to cook… I never really grew up cooking. 'Tapos ngayon, I'm trying everything! I'm super happy about that."

Her current specialty?

The popular Spanish rice dish, paella.

Yassi may find joy in caring for family, but the quarantine has also made her realize the importance of self-care.

The Ang Probinsyano actress says, "I think you must remember to take care of yourself because we always take of others and the people around us.

"And now, na-realize ko talaga na kapag inaalagaan mo sarili mo at naging buo ka na nga, mas maaalagaan mo pa sila. Mas mabibigay mo pa iyong full self mo."
