The COVID-19 pandemic may continue to take its toll on the global economy, but that doesn’t mean all hope is lost for people seeking employment.
JobStreet Philippines, the local sector of Southeast Asia’s largest online employment portal, recently published a report on the impact of COVID-19 on businesses and workplaces.
And here’s the good news: Employers in various industries will be hiring in the next six months applicants qualfied for jobs “ranging from customer-facing to back-office and organizational work.”
This was the result of JobStreet Philippines’ latest survey from May 15 to 27, 2020, among 314 employers.
Topping the list are positions in accounting (33%), sales/customer service/ business development (31%), information technology (26%), admin and human resources (24%), and engineering (20%).
Also available for job seekers are positions in banking or finance (15%), marketing or public relations (14%), management (13%), transportation and logistics (11%), and building and construction (8%).
Now is the best time for young millennials and Gen Zers to send out their resumes as employers are prioritizing applicants in junior or entry levels (78%) over mid-level (45%) and senior roles (23%).
Meanwhile, those who lost their jobs because of the pandemic or have been retrenched can be assured of their chances to land jobs.
JobStreet states, “Majority of hirers (70%) will not factor this into their assessment of the candidates in the future, and 25% will actually be more likely to hire candidates who have lost their jobs as a result of COVID-19.”
