Gabbi Garcia on social media: "It is a gift...not a weapon to hurt people"

Gabbi Garcia is aware of the far-reaching influence of social media that can result in either chaos or unity.

This is why the 21-year-old Kapuso actress-host is encouraging young people, especially those with large following, to be mindful of what they post on social media.

She said, "I think we are free to speak our minds, but know what you are talking about.

Gabbi, launched as the host of GMA-7's newest youth-oriented reality show IRL, was interviewed by (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press on November 5, 2020, Thursday.

She continued, "You can speak your mind if you know what you’re talking about, if you have done your research, if you have educated yourself.

"And as long as you don’t hurt or disrespect people, then you’re free to speak your mind. It’s different na when you’re attacking.

"But to speak your mind and to share your thoughts and opinions about these certain topics, go ahead."

Over the past few months, many influencers have found themselves on the receiving end of social media's "cancel culture."

According to Gabbi, "Social media now kasi has its pros and cons, so it's up to you if you'll use it as a weapon or you'll use it to your advantage.

"I feel like, it's not just the Gen Zs but the whole social media in general...

"I feel like people are sometimes forgetting—including myself—that social media is a gift and it shouldn't be used as a weapon."

Gabbi emphasized, "It should be used to connect to people, to connect to each other.

"Sana we just view it as a gift and not as a weapon to hurt people and to hurt one another."
