Mavy Legaspi and his twin sister Cassie have had an an early exposure to showbiz.
Ever since they were kids, they have been appearing in the commercials of their parents, Carmina Villaroel and Zoren Legaspi; earning their share of talent fees.
It came as no surprise when they officially entered showbiz in 2018 as GMA-7 artists.
But as much as Mavy that showbiz opportunities come only once, he is also bent on earning a college degree.
The 20-year-old actor had said, "If the opportunity is so right, mawawala yun if you don’t grab it, sayang…"
At the same time, he is continuing with his schooling and now in his second year in college taking up Business Management major in Entrepreneurship.
Talking to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other Summit Media websites, he said both him and Cassie are working students..
He added they're prepared to tackle both their studies and showbiz work.
Mavvy said, "Hindi kami nagulat actually sa pag-juggle ng work load, most especially when we hit college.
"Our third year high school or senior year, that’s when we signed [with] Artist Center, or fourth year.
"So we were really juggling school already with work; in that sense, we’re already warmed up na.
"When we hit college, we thought it would be a different ball game.
"It was a different ball game but at the same time yung priorities mo… it will work if gusto mo. That’s what I can really say.
"It’s hard, yes, juggling both work and school, but if gusto mo, there will always be a way… may paraan iyan."
He said having his high school friends as his block mates has been a great help and motivation.
"It’s pretty fun because if you missed a lecture, they’re always there to help you except sa tests [laughs], it’s your own battle."
According to Mavy, between Carmina and Zoren, it is his mom who is most persistent that he and Cassy complete their studies.
He explained, "They have different takes on that…Yung dad ko… kung ano yung gusto mo, dun siya.
"Yung mom ko kasi, nag-college kasi yun kaso hindi niya natapos… there’s a frustration as kanya na hindi niya tinapos yung college.
"Napunta din yung dream niya sa amin. Ever since, 'if ever you’re gonna enter showbiz, kailangan mag-degree kayo.'
"Okay, gusto rin naman namin… It wasn’t enforced upon us, we wanted to get a degree…
"I mean she’s focused din sa career namin but mahalaga din yung education.
"She doesn’t want us to look back like how she looked back na hindi niya natapos.
"It isn’t an easy task but kung may push ka, magagawa mo siya."
Unlike his twin sister, Cassy, who balances work and school requirements in between taping of her shows, Mavy is relieved he's been spared the stress of going into a lock-in taping in the middle of a school semester.
He said, "Ako super tsamba nung natapos ko yung sem ko, dun palang nag-hotel quarantine.
"So this whole lock-in was my whole sembreak [laughs] super swak lang, super swak…"
He gleefully ended, "The school gods are listening to me…"
Both Mavy and Cassy had starred in their first teleseryes—First Yaya for Cassy and I Left My Heart in Sorsogon for Mavy.
