The winner of the Miss Universe Philippines 2022 pageant will get to wear a brand new crown!
The crown, dubbed the "La Mer en Majesté" crown, was unveiled by the Miss Universe Philippines Organization on Tuesday evening, April 19, 2022, during the pageant's The Ultimate Reigns fashion gala night held at the Hilton Manila, Pasay City.
LA MER EN MAJESTE CROWN
The "La Mer en Majesté" crown is designed by Jewelmer and highlights the Philippines' national gemstone: the golden South Sea Pearl.
"La Mer en Majesté" is actually the French term for "The Sea Majesty."
Jewelmer is a luxury jewelry branch established in 1979 by the French pearl farmer Jacques Branellec and Filipino entrepreneur Manuel Cojuangco.
In an Instagram post, the French-Filipino jewelry brand says the crown represents "beauty, harmony, and rarity."
MUPH Organization describes it as "a radiant symbol of the harmonious relationship between man and nature, capturing the very spirit of the Filipinos."
The golden crown comes with 17 pieces of nearly perfect golden South Sea pearls and is fully encrusted with diamonds.
According to a report by Aubrey Carampel for GMA News, the crown is priced at PHP3 million.
FILIPINA CROWN
"La Mer en Majesté" crown's predecessor is the "Filipina" crown, which was unveiled on October 25, 2020.
The "Filipina" crown was designed by the Villarica Family, the owners of one of the biggest pawnshop chains in the country.
The crown is studded with sapphire, ruby, and topaz stones, which represent the colors of the country's flag. It also comes with yellow pearls and diamonds.
The crown is possibly the most expensive Miss Universe Philippines crown ever made, with an estimated value of PHP5 million.
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo was the first Pinay beauty queen to wear this crown. She passed it on to the reigning titleholder, Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez.
The grand coronation night of the Miss Universe Philippines 2022 pageant will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on April 30, 2022.
Prior to the coronation night, the pageant's preliminary competition is scheduled to happen on April 27, 2022, at The Cove Manila.
