Andre Yllana is determined to become a matinee idol like his dad Jomari Yllana.
“This time po, sana tuluy-tuloy na yung pagpasok ko dahil una sa lahat, gusto ko po ‘tapos, gusto ko po talaga, e.
“Saka ready na rin po ako,” said the 17-year-old son of Jomari and actress Aiko Melendez in an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the opening of The Hub Foodpark at R20 on Mindanao Avenue.
It may be recalled that in 2013, his dad announced his entry to showbiz on the defunct talk show StarTalk.
Subsequently, Andre had appeared on several shows, but could not go full-time then because of his studies.
“We had an agreement po ng parents ko na I’m not going to be able to do what I want unless I finish high school. Ayun po.
“E, tinapos ko muna high school ‘tapos noong natapos ako sa high school, yun na po.”
Presently taking up Marketing Management at Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the Star Magic talent is hoping he'd be able to juggle school and career.
“I would like to focus on both. I will do my best para mapagsabay.
“Yun din po kasi yung usapan namin ni Mama.”
The sons of his dad’s Gwaping batchmates have also shown interest in showbiz.
Mark Anthony Fernandez’s son Grae has been with Star Magic, while Eric Fructuoso’s son Frederick joined GMA’s StarStruck 6 in 2015.

What can he say about the idea of launching them as the next batch of Gwapings?
He replied, “Okay po yun lalo’t halos magkakaedad din kami.
“I would love to have Gwapings part two.
“Puwede po pero sa ngayon po, parang wala pa pong nagbabalak, e.
"So abangan na lang natin.”
Andre hopes to become a drama actor like his award-winning parents.
But he’s also open to doing romantic comedy and even action.
“Isa po iyan sa sinasabi ng dad ko, you have to be flexible, yung puwede kang ilagay sa kahit saan.”
What was it like growing up with famous parents?
Andre said that unlike most children, he had to be more careful about the way he conducts himself in public.
He elaborated, “It was both fun and hard.
“Fun because I was, sa school, I mean I don’t want to be the talk of the town pero yung mga tingin nila sa ’kin parang okay ‘to, ganyan-ganyan.
“Kumbaga parang role model ang dating ko po.
“Pero it was hard at the same time dahil yun nga po, hindi po ako puwedeng maging ganito, hindi ako puwedeng ganyan.
“Hindi ako puwedeng lumabas sa ganito.
“Kumbaga, pigil po, pero I totally understand kung bakit ganoon dahil siyempre mom and dad ko po, actors and actresses so yung image po nila, iniingatan ko din po.”
Does he already have a leading lady?
“Ay, hindi ko po alam, e.”
But his wish is to be paired with his “ultimate crush” Liza Soberano.
Shyly, he threw in, “Kaso may…nandiyan na po si Kuya Enrique Gil.”
Has he met her?
“Opo. Kinilig po ako.
“Hindi ko po mapigil yung kilig pero napakabait po niya.
“Napakabait po ni Ate Liza. Basta si crush, ang bait po ni crush.”
Liza is the only crush of this young hottie who is single, not yet dating, and “wala rin po talaga ako nililigawan.”
