Sarah Geronimo narrates how learning to be more assertive and outspoken has been such a liberating experience to her: "Yung pag-speak up, voicing out your thoughts, what you believe in, mga convictions mo, mga pinaniniwalaan mo."

For more than a decade now, Sarah Geronimo has been performing in front of millions of people, and she remains thankful for being given the talent and privilege of doing so.

“I’m very blessed, kasi God made a dream come true: to be able to perform in front of a huge crowd, big crowd, at makapagbigay ng kasiyahan sa kanila,” she told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the Power of Voice campaign launch of Kamillosan M Spray last April 21 at Discovery Primea in Makati City.

As a multi-talented performer, Sarah admits the necessity of taking special care of her voice.

She said, “I made a career out of singing at talaga naman pong nakapa-precious ang boses ko po.

Being an inspiration to her multitude of fans, Sarah is also aware of the responsibilities that go hand in hand with her special gift.

But how does she really feel about being seen as a role model?

She admitted, “May mga oras na iniisip ko siya, kapag sinasabing, ‘Si Sarah, tinitignan iyan as role model.’

“Siyempre malaki ho iyang responsibilidad.”

The 28-year-old pop star underlined that she doesn’t claim to be perfect.

“Nagpapakabait ka para sa magiging buhay mo after this,” she pointed out.

STAYING TRUE TO HERSELF. Among the many responsibilities that Sarah acknowledges is fulfilling her obligation to herself.

When she began her career as a singer, Sarah was 14 years old.

Naturally, she was dependent on the people around her to keep the show running.

The Kapamilya star confessed that it took her a while to realize the importance of voicing out her genuine feelings about matters at hand.

“Kasi nagsimula ako 14 years old, hanggang mag-bente yata ako, hindi pa rin ako nagsasalita.

“I mean, hindi literally...well, medyo.

“Hindi ako masalitang tao. Oo lang ako nang oo.

“'Okay, okay. I will do this,' ganyan-ganyan.

“Kung malungkot ka or galit ka, you just have to be responsible.”

Sarah advised that the feelings of others still mattered even if you were voicing out your own.

SPEAKING UP. This season, Sarah returned as one of the coaches on the ABS-CBN singing competition The Voice Teens.

She confided that her greatest lesson from the show was empowering her to speak up more and break out from her shell.

“Dito sa show na The Voice, na-realize ko na venue siya talaga to exercise yung pag-speak up—voicing out your thoughts, what you believe in, mga convictions mo, mga pinaniniwalaan mo.

“Dun nae-exercise talaga yung pagsasalita ko,” she gratefully acknowledged.
