Senior Inspector Fredie Solar, a hero in the eyes of his grieving family. He was 32 years old. He left behind a wife and two young children.

Senior Inspector Fredie Solar was one of the police officers killed in the Marawi terror attack on Tuesday night, May 23.

The 32-year-old was shot several times after members of the Maute group learned he was a cop.

He has been described as a "humble, kind-hearted, and determined brother."

"He was a young man with a dream. He dreamed to be successful. He dreamed to uplift his family from the hard life that we experience." reads a viral post by his older sister, Susan Solar-Urbano, on Facebook.

She says "life was hard" for their family in Baguio City.

"Our father can hardly make ends meet.

"Oftentimes, we go to our neighbors and ask for sayote tops or camote tops just to have something to eat. We begged at the store to lend us rice just so we can cook something."

She adds: "Life was really hard but this did not stop my brother to pursue his calling and achieve his dreams.

"He experienced hardship and this became his bread and butter to achieve his goals in life."

Through hard work, Fredie graduated from the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) in Cavite in 2007.

He served in the Marawi police force as soon as he graduated.

His family asked him to apply for reassignment somewhere else, but he declined, saying the Southern people's respect for him was enough reason to stay.

"For numerous times, we have pleaded for him to come back in Baguio," she relates. "At first, it was just patriotism that drove him to be in there.

"And as days and years passed, he still ignored our request to work for his re-assignment but he always assured us that it is safe there. He has come to love the people of Marawi."

Tragically, the officer died at the scene.

Now, his family is grieving his loss.

"Just last night, at the Marawi siege, in the hands of heartless terrorists, we LOST him.

"He died defending the people that he has come to protect.

"We lost a humble, kind hearted, determined brother who we dearly love, all for the sake of the country.

"This is really heartbreaking for all of us."

Fredie left a wife and two young children.

His remains will be sent home to Baguio City.

Mayor Mauricio Domoga said they plan a hero's welcome "befitting of an officer from this city who gave his life to the country."

RIP, Senior Inspector Fredie Solar.
