The YES! June 2017 issue also features celebrity weddings of Bangs Garcia and Lloyd Birchmore and Luis Alandy and Joselle Fernandez.

As summer draws to a close, YES! Magazine puts the spotlight this June on Derek Ramsay and his steel-and-glass beach house in the coastal town of San Vicente in Palawan province.

“Yeah, it’s an amazing place,” Derek says of his and his family’s pride and joy.

Aside from the beach house that’s found on a long strip of white sand, the Ramsays own two small islands.

“I’m very content, very at peace, just like this place, you know,” he beams.

“But just like this place, kapag habagat, may alon—and that’s how life is, di ba? It’s not smooth sailing.

"Basta, ang importante sa akin now is I’m at that point in my life when I get to spend more time with my family."

Derek has also found contentment and peace in his showbiz career and love life.

“I have no regrets with the move that I made,” he says, referring to his transfer from ABS-CBN to TV5 in 2012.

“If I stayed with Channel 2, would I be more famous or popular? Yes, no doubt. I’d probably have more Instagram followers, more Twitter followers.

“But that’s not how I wanna live my life, you know. I wanna fulfill the different things that I’m passionate about. And with that move, I was able to do that.

“But do I have full respect for ABS? Yes, they made me who I am. They were the ones who created this passion that I have for acting. They were the ones who gave me the opportunity to get into this field of work, so I’m always gonna be appreciative and respectful of ABS-CBN.

“They’re a big part of how I became Derek Ramsay. Respeto ko talaga sa Channel 2 for giving me that chance to show my skills and talent in this field. I have a lot of friends there, people that I miss working with.”

In 2015, Derek returned to the ABS-CBN fold through the Kapamilya network’s film production arm, Star Cinema, which produced his movie with Coleen Garcia, Ex With Benefits.

“Marami akong tinik din na natanggal sa puso ko no’ng pinayagan na ako ulit mag-movie sa Star Cinema,” he admits.

This year, 2017, Derek is set to do another movie for Star Cinema, opposite a top ABS-CBN leading lady whom he’s worked in the past.

As for his love life, the good-looking actor happily reports that being with his girlfriend of two years, Joanne Villablanca, is “the most steady relationship I’ve been in.”

He observes that he and his girlfriend click because they complement and are supportive of each other.

“I guess it’s also because she has responsibility to her daughter, you know,” he points out. “I like that she has a sense of responsibility.”

He adds with amusement that Joanne’s nine-year-old daughter looks like his ex-girlfriend, Angelica Panganiban, who started in showbiz as a child star.

Speaking of Angelica, Derek says they’re now on good terms.

“That’s another thing why I’m at peace with my life now. A lot of things were said, but I just kept my mouth shut…  I just took it, and then, one day, it was all over. Now, look, we’re friends, so everything is good.”

The YES! June 2017 issue also features the Boracay wedding of Bangs Garcia and her Fil-Brit groom, Lloyd Birchmore, as well as the Tagaytay nuptials of Luis Alandy and his gymmate-turned-bride, Joselle Fernandez.

Plus: a tribute to PETA on its 50th anniversary, rainy day fashion with Sanya Lopez, beauty essentials in Kate Valdez’s bag, Baby Zia Dantes’s big day out with her Daddy Dingdong Dantes and her Mommy Marian Rivera, and a lot more!
