Boy Abunda's latest venture is PhilSpeakers, which is into managing motivational speakers for seminars, summits, and team-building activities.
The Kapamilya who currently has three talks shows—Tonight With Boy Abunda, Bottomline, and Inside Cinema—revealed to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview held last April 25, at Seda Vertis North, how the idea came about.
“Last year, I keynoted the Asia Professional Speakers Congress in Singapore.
"Ito ay isang grupo ng mga top Asian speakers… I keynoted that.
"Dun ako nakakuha ng inspirasyon to form the PhilSpeakers.
"It’s a community of speakers, iba-iba kami."
His plan is to form a team of 15 speakers who are experts in various fields.
“I can name a few... Nandiyan ako. I have a Taxation expert, si Mon Abrea. May financial management expert, merong political expert."
The talk show host continued, "I spoke to Richard Heydarian, to Mon Abrea, Salve Duplito, I have the chairman of the Sociology Department of Ateneo, si Jayeel Cornelio.
“Kasi vast yung coverage namin."
He also started approaching celebrities.
"We spoke already to Pia Wurztbach to talk about her story.
"I spoke to Drew Arellano to talk about how it is to be, learning to be a father o being a triathlete.
“Bianca Gonzalez is gonna be a part of this. You know, being a social media influencer.
"Kylie Verzosa will handle mental health, Bela Padilla is joining here.
“I also talked to Liz Uy and Vince [Uy] to talk about personal styling, et cetera.”
When he's not visible on television, he's busy delivering speeches in various companies.
He related, “Kasi I become very busy, hindi lamang sa trabahong ito… I’ve been speaking very, very aggressively in different companies.
“Siguro in the last few months, I did seven BPOs, call centers from JP Morgan to Twenty-Four Seven [24/7]. I did Filoil... iba-iba.”
How does PhilSpeakers work?
“Binubuo namin ang grupong ito… halimbawa, may isang company.
“Kumpanya ka, sabihin mo, ‘I need five speakers for my employees. I want to motivate them to be better.'
“So pupunta ka sa listahan namin, 'tapos meron kaming tinatawag na talk menu.
“Halimbawa, si Boy Abunda, ito ang puwede niyang pag-usapan. Si Pia Wurztbach, ganun din."
Boy clarified that his partners are not yet exclusive to PhilSpeakers, but that is what he is aiming for.
He said, “I have not signed up with my speakers, but I told them that my desire for them is to be exclusive with us.
“Wala naman akong nakuhang resistance.
“Hindi pa namin binabalikan sila, pero nasa process kami ngayon of solidifying the organization."
BOY R. ABUNDA TALKS. Aside from company-initiated activities, Boy will hold his very own talk workshop either this May or in June.
He said, "I used to do this, e, for ABS. I used to do this on my own, pero ngayon, ipupormal na namin.
"It covers public speaking. It covers a little bit of hosting and interviewing and the fun Q & A.
"Binubuo din namin yung eskuwelahan."
He is also set to start the Boy R. Abunda Talks series.
"Ito naman yung aming social responsibility. We’re starting this on June 8.
"Parang pep talk siya. Mga kuwentong nakaka-inspire, nakaka-motivate.
"Hindi ito mga professional speakers.
"These are real people talking about their real experiences, inspiring others."
LGBT AWARDS. Boy also wants to continue the Boy Abunda LGBT Awards which he started last year.
At press time, he is preparing for the second batch of recipients.
“Meron akong trophies na pinagawa ko kay [painter] Philipp Badon, meron kaming citation kung bakit.
“It is really to celebrate achievers in the LGBT community.
“Yung awards, hinahatid namin sa bahay.
“Maraming dahilan kung bakit gusto naming ipribado muna. Wala kaming pera to stage.”
Meanwhile, when asked if his former co-host Kris Aquino will be part of any of his projects, Boy said that she remains supportive of his endeavors.
“Kris is an ally. She’s always been an ally.
“She’s always very, very supportive lalo na nung magkasama pa kami noon.
“She’s always been supportive sa aking mga adbokasiya.”
