A well-known celebrity who is from a famous showbiz clan, Andi Eigenmann chose to leave the limelight in 2017.
Her reason: To have a more peaceful and less stressful life in Baler, Aurora, which has stretch of beaches ideal for surfing.
Andi told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last July 3, at the premiere of The Maid in London in Robinsons Movieworld, Robinsons Galleria, "Hindi po ako masaya dahil po I felt it’s about time to go and explore and find myself, and I found myself in the island. And I realized that this is where I want to be."
Though she did not entirely turn her back on showbiz, the 28-year-old actress sold most of her material possessions.
"Lahat ng nakikita ko parang I sold every thing. Hindi naman every thing. Example, I kept like nice shoes and just kept like a few pairs, just in case I would need them.
"But then the 60 pairs of shoes is like I don’t wear them. I don’t need to wear heels in the province."
And since she would only go to Manila when she has a showbiz commitment, she decided to try commuting.
Didn't the driver and passengers recognize her?
"Some people were like, ‘Artista iyan or something.’ Or like, most of the time, for example, I will ride the taxi and then the driver, di na niya iniisip na I’m Andi.
"Iniisip niya kamukha ko lang.
"And then sometimes when they think I’m a foreigner, I respond in English na lang para they’ll just think I’m a foreigner."
Andi’s latest movie was shot last year, prior to the period she made her decision to live in Baler.
The daughter of Mark Gil (deceased) and Jaclyn Jose said, acting will remain her bread and butter, but she doesn't want to be consumed by fame.
"I need to earn money to provide for my daughter," referring to Ellie, whose dad is Jake Ejercito.
"But I’m okay with just enough to do that.
"I don’t need all of those unnecessary luho. Ang mga material things na mga iyan, nawawala din naman ang mga iyan.
"Yung importante masaya.
"Like me and my daughter, we don’t need toys to be entertained.
"We have the beach as our playground, and there’s so much to do.
"I’m a 90's kid, so I want to raise Ellie in a way na nakikita niya rin iyon or gano'n din ang pamumuhay niya, imbes na palaging sa cell phone."
