Kim Atienza's son Jose graduates from flight school.
Jose is an aspiring pilot, who trained under the Leading Edge International Aviation Academy in Taguig, Metro Manila.
He made his first solo flight in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic forced everyone to stay in their homes.
Today, May 29, 2020, was supposed to be Jose's graduation day.
To mark this occasion, Jose thought of honoring his father by writing him a letter of gratitude.
Published as written, part of his letter read: "Papa,
"Today is my graduation day. Although the day is going to be nowhere near what I expected it to be, it's gotten me to reflect on who has gotten me to this point.
"From my childhood, to my middle school days and up to this day, you've shown me how far genuine compassion for others can take an individual.
"Just as Mark 12:31 writes, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
"You've ingrained in me a want to help those not as fortunate.
"To show compassion for others is to show respect for yourself, and it's because of you that I can live by that statement.
"I'm grateful for that."
Jose acknowledged his father's perseverance, proving that overcoming obstacles is part of one's growth.
He also thanked the ABS-CBN host for being an inspiration and a model of faith.
Kim's 18-year-old son continued, "I don't show it often, but I'm thankful to have a father who gives the amount of love you do.
"As I transition from my teenage years into adulthood and eventually start a family of my own, I aspire to show the same compassion and care you've shown me that last 18 years.
"Thank you, and I love you.
The Matanglawin posted the letter on his Instagram profile, stating that it made him tear up.
He captioned, "I sliced onions. You made my day son. I am so proud of you.
"Fly as high as you can and if by chance you fall, papa and mama will always be here to catch you. I love you dearest @jhatienza You are a blessing to us and to all who come your way."
Kim and his wife Felicia have two more kids: daughters (L-R) Eliana and Emman.
