Like many parents, Dani Barretto is anxious about the possible effects of "new normal" on her daughter Millie's future.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed life as we know it—people are encouraged to stay home, and when they do step outside, they must maintain physical distancing and wear face masks and face shields to curb the spread of the virus.
With this new reality, Dani has been experiencing "minor meltdowns alone" at home.
The young mother shares her fears on her sister Claudia's podcast Mindgames by Claudia.
"I was very scared for Millie," the content creator says.
"I was just afraid because she was growing up in the house. And that was my fear because we had a great childhood.
"We were so used to playing outside, having neighbors as best friends, and going home dirty or going home at night.
"That was my fear—that Millie might grow up in the house and might not have that."
Dani also can't believe her daughter has to grow up in a world where many things are accessed virtually, including education.
She continues, "School now is going to be online, which is another fear of mine.
"Because I was like, 'Wait, hold on, so that means I have to tutor my kid?'
"This is the new normal for me, for you, for everybody.
"But this the normal of our children. This is Millie's normal."
DANI ON THE NEW NORMAL FOR KIDS: "HOW WILL THEY MAKE FRIENDS?"
Claudia acknowledges Dani's parenting anxieties and sympathizes with her older sister.
The young singer recalls a time when Dani visited them at their home and told them about a "sad" scene she witnessed on the way there.
She tells her sister in the podcast, "I just remember when you came over and you were explaining that you got scared because you saw a kid in your village on a bike, wearing a mask and a face shield.
"And you were like, 'Is this how it is going to be?'
"And then I realized, wow, these are things that new parents, or just parents, have to worry about now.
"Because not only do you have to worry about [the kids'] health and safety, you're also worried how they are going to be socially.
"Imagine when someone wants to give them a hug. Will they be, like, scared? Uneasy? Because you have to train now to be safe."
Dani seconds this by asking, "How will they make friends? They are always at home.
"The challenge for parents now is how to make things normal still for kids without it being scary.
"Now, you just have to think ahead what to do.
"I just hope she'll have the school experience, the playground experience."
For now, Dani sees it best to acknowledge this reality and manage expectations from there.
"You just have to be realistic," she says.
"It's just nice to be prepared and then, of course, when things get better, then great!"
Dani gave birth to her daughter Millie on September 13, 2019.
Millie is Dani's daughter with husband Xavi Panlilio.
Dani and Claudia have three more siblings: Julia, Leon, and Erich.
Their mother is Marjorie Barretto.
