The one thing moms get anxious about after giving birth is producing enough breastmilk for their baby.
First-time mom Dianne Medina, 33, remembers her own struggle when she started breastfeeding her newborn son, Baby Joaquin.
She says "...as much as possible, I want to exclusively breastfeed my son.
"Dun lang ako nagsa-struggle because sometimes, yung milk supply ko mahina, sometimes naman ang dami niya. So hindi talaga siya consistent."
"I'm trying my best, and I also have my support system din na mga fellow moms.
"Mga kaibigan, may mga celebrities, may mga non-showbiz friends din na tumutulong din sa akin on how I can increase my milk supply for Baby Joaquin."
STRONG SUPPORT SYSTEM
Dianne admits feeling frustrated at times while breastfeeding her baby.,
The Bagong Pilipinas host notes, however, that her faith, the presence of her husband, Rodjun Cruz, and a strong support system have given her the strength to ward off the low points that normally hit after birth.
She says, "It frustrates me pero if you ask me kung malungkot ako with regards to postpartum depression, so far, I'm okay.
"Number one, I pray every day with the help of our Lord Jesus Christ.
"Number two, my husband is very supportive, a hundred percent. He takes good care of me and our baby.
"My support system din dito sa loob ng house, even our household members, lahat naman sila very supportive naman sa akin.
"So yung struggles and yung challenges along the way, kahit papaano naiibsan yun.
"And so far, doing good naman ako. Sa milk lang talaga, it frustrates me lang kapag kaunti."
Dianne adds, "Yun yung nagiging challenge sa akin, nalulungkot talaga ako sobra, but, you know, my husband is always here for me.
"Talagang yung words of encouragement din niya to support me with this breastfeeding journey.
"And yung support din ng pediatrician ni Joaquin and yung mga doctors namin to increase my milk supply, ano naman sila, very supportive."
INCREASING MILK SUPPLY
When asked to share some tips to other moms who want to increase their breastmilk supply, she says, "Of course, to eat healthily. Eat lots of soup and malunggay, which are number one talaga if you want to increase your milk supply.
"Take your vitamis and yung mga health supplements to increase milk. And also, hydrate yourself.
"It's important that you drink lots of water and isa sa mga advice nila is to take lots of sleep."
In Dianne's case, she gets to do the latter because her husband takes on the night duties.
"Kaso siyempre, if you're breastfeeding, every two hours and demand ng baby so hindi ka rin talaga makakatulog.
"Kami ni Rodjun, meron naman kaming shifting so hinahayaan niya ako mag-rest 'tapos he takes care of the baby."
The couple got married at the Manila Cathedral last December 21, 2019.
Dianne gave birth to Baby Joaquin on September 10, 2020.
