Ellen Adarna is determined to become the "better version" of herself.

Since becoming a mother to son Elias, Ellen has made the extra effort to be healthier in all aspects of her life.

"Because of him… I want to be a better version of myself and a better version is a healthy person, right?" the social media star says in a virtual interview with her friend Samantha Kapunan, a yoga teacher and founder of Satori Philippines.

"A healthy person is physically, mentally, and spiritually healthy.

"You just have to set an example to your child because you will set a standard. Especially like me, I have a son.

"I will set the standard of what he wants in a woman, so I am pressured."

Knowing her influence on Elias, the celebrity mom has become more mindful of her actions.

"I now understand what conscious parenting is because you really have to take care of yourself.

"Because what I noticed with Elias, he doesn’t listen to what you say. He copies what I do. It's the little things.

"We really have to take care of ourselves."

The interview was uploaded on YouTube last October 10, 2020.

"Harmonious mind, body, and soul"

Back in March, Ellen underwent an intense mental training at Kokoro Program Bali in Indonesia.

This program introduced Ellen to a "higher form of self-love."

She elaborates in her interview, "If you want to be whole and not depressed or whatever mental issues you have, you really have to work hard for that balance.

"It doesn't come easy. The meaningful things that you want in your life requires hard work and discipline...

"It's really taking care of yourself. It’s really loving yourself. It’s a higher form of self-love."

Ellen adds that the mental training redefined her concept of happiness and mindfulness.

"True happiness is really a harmonious mind, body, and soul. I didn't know of this until I finished the program.

"I was able to control myself better and to observe myself better, to observe my feelings and emotions better, and to acknowledge them.

"Kasi before, if may problem or if you're not feeling so good, you distract yourself from the reality of it.

"That issue that you're feeling, since you run away from it, it's just always going to be there because you don't face it.

"If you don't face your issues, that's also one reason why you can go crazy and go into depression."

Better you is a healthier you

Ellen focuses on two things so she can stick to her goal of becoming a better version of herself: movement and meditation.

For her, physical exercise is basically letting the body move.

"When you start moving, when you start exercising, you will feel a huge difference," the former actress points out.

"Everything just follows. It's good energy. Exercise is good energy. And then, wala na, parang nanganak na iyong good energy na iyan.

"Hopefully, for some, when they see progress, when you start moving, kahit hindi sila nagda-diet, obviously you will lose a little bit of weight.

"And when they see that, I'm sure they'll be encouraged."

Ellen also meditates.

She knows people get intimidated by the concept.

"You know, meditation, no one believes it. I mean, not no one, but konti lang.

"Like someone asked me like, 'How do you handle stress and anxiety?' And then I just tell them, 'I meditate.' And then they're like, 'Really?'

"Like they're looking for a pill. Like they want to see something. But it's really meditation."

Gesturing to her temples, Ellen underlines, "The problems are all here, so what would treat it is also this. And how do you get here? You meditate.

"A lot of people ask me. Even one of my best friends asked me, 'How do you meditate? I can't even have a calm mind. I can't help myself.'

"You see, you're not supposed to calm yourself down. You're just supposed to observe yourself."

Ellen became a mother to son Elias on June 27, 2018.

Elias is Ellen's son with her former partner, John Lloyd Cruz.
