Pokwang does not mind playing the "bad cop" in her household.

This is something she learned from her late mother Gloria Subong, and she takes to heart when it comes to disciplining her own children: Ria Mae, who is now 25 years old, and Malia, 3.

"Ako ang masusunod, ako ang masusunod, alam niyo iyan," Pokwang told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an exclusive interview via Zoom.

She further explained, "Dapat yung ano natin, way of... how Filipino mom raises their children.

Like her mom, Pokwang also thinks that punishment is one way of correcting a child's behavior. In particular, spanking can be done but only when necessary.

The mom of two explained, "Kasi, tawag dito, ang nanay ko, bihirang-bihira mamalo.

Pokwang is just grateful that her children are respectful to their elders.

She said proudly, "Saan ka nakakita ng tisay na, 'Mano po.' Gumaganyan, 'Mano po.' Gumaganon, nagmamano. Cute-cute kaya tingnan!"

MIXED-RACE FAMILY

As her daughter Malia is growing up in a mixed-race family, Pokwang conscientiously teaches her Filipino values.

But, of course, Malia has picked up some "very American" traits from her father Lee O'Brian.

Pokwang told PEP.ph, "American na nakuha niya is, napaka-honest na bata. Alam mo yung, rekta sila.

Yung ganoon, rekta sila, e.

"Kasi tayo ayaw natin makapanakit kaya, di ba, kaya medyo inaano, 'Ah, kasi ano e, alam mo dapat...'

"Aminin? Ganoon tayo.

Like her dad, Malia isn't a picky eater.
