Lea Salonga finds herself to have "fewer friends," but she is "perfectly happy with that."

Motherhood can drain most of a woman’s energy away, but Lea Salonga begs to differ.

The world-class performer says that along with marriage, it has been a "liberating" experience.

In an interview with Smartparenting.com.ph, Lea said that family has has made her "vulnerable."

She said, "I think all of that [motherhood and as a wife] open the heart much more than when I was younger.

"You kind of start throwing the BS [b*llshit] in your life, because it’s like I’m married, I’m raising a child, and I’m a much responsible adult.

"When you’re married, you’re just like split open and vulnerable to another human [compared to] being merely in a relationship."

Lea has been married to her husband Robert Chien for 12 years and together. They are parents to their 10-year-old daughter Nicole.

Family has helped her stay focused on the more vital things in life as well.

The 45-year-old mom said, "This is when you start getting rid of any and all things that you might see as not authentic or hampering your journey towards honesty and authenticity.

"And I’m finding I have fewer friends now.

"They’re fewer, but they’re truer, and I’m so perfectly happy with that."
