Maricar de Mesa's long-time dream of having her own baby finally came true early this year after receiving an e-mail from her doctor.
“Sobra akong excited,” the actress recalled the moment.
But her partner's reaction also surprised Maricar.
“The father cried. Nagulat ako sa kanya.
“Ako, I was speechless. I read the e-mail from my doctor, siya kasi ang nag-confirm e na I'm pregnant.
“Hindi ko masabi, wala akong masabing words.
“Pinasa ko lang sa kanya yung phone tapos, 'Aaaah!'
“'Tapos pagkakita niya, siya yung umiyak.”
The timing was also perfect, because “when we found out pa, we were walking in front of a church, so pumasok kami sa church and nag-pray kami.”
Since this is her first pregnancy, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Maricar about the best part of her journey to motherhood.
She answered, smiling, “Alam mo yung pagiging spoiled ng lahat ng friends, ng family, ng father na mas lalo pang na-spoil ako.
“Sabi ko, aabusuhin ko na 'to, ilang buwan lang naman.
“Even my friends would call, wala lang, random, 'Saan ka ngayon? Punta ako sa bahay mo. What do you want?'
“Wala, ganun lang, magdadala lang kung ano yung request ko.
“Maalaga sila sa 'yo, tatawagan ka nila, na-enjoy ko yun.”
The chat took place at the baby shower prepared for the actress by her friends and Aprica stroller on Saturday, July 15, at Mom and Tina's Bakery Cafe.
Among her celebrity friends who attended the event were Angelu de Leon, Tanya Garcia-Lapid, LJ Moreno, Ara Mina, and Samantha Lopez.
MOMMY ADVICE. Angelu and Tanya, who got to work with Maricar in the GMA soap Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga (2001), gave a message for the mommy-to-be and her Baby Sky during the short program.
Angelu began, “I'm sure going to be a great mother. Hindi ka nga mukhang buntis, nakakainis ka.
“But kidding aside, I just wish you and baby good health especially pagdating niya sa mundong ibabaw.
"All the best for you and her.”
Tanya, on the other hand, talked about the changes in Maricar's life once she becomes a mother, “You'll learn something new about yourself.
“You'll learn na you can do things na never mong na-imagine na kaya mong gawin.
“Kapag may baby ka na, you'll learn, alam mo yung, unconditional love.
“Bakit ba ako ang naiiyak? Ha-ha!
“Ako kasi, I never knew that I can be patient, I can be this loving, I can be this domesticated.”
Then, she promised her good friend, “I just want you to know that we'll always be here for you if you need anything. We're just a call or text away.
“I love you and I love your baby so much, you know that.
“Ang tagal-tagal na naming pinagpe-pray ito. Ikaw din, alam ko. Your baby is a blessing at ikaw din, you're a blessing.”
Meanwhile, LJ, who is also currently pregnant with her third child, assured Maricar, “I'll always be here for you if you need advice.
“I know you're going to be an amazing mother because you were raised by an amazing woman.”
Then, she reiterated what Tanya told Maricar, “Tama ang sinabi ni Tanya about motherhood, you'll learn something new every day.
“But I know you'll be an amazing mother because you have such a strong support group—your mom, your sisters, all of us will always be here.”
Maricar is due to give birth in about four weeks. Her partner, whom she refuses to name, will be arriving from the U.S. soon.
When asked why she chose to give birth in the Philippines instead of U.S., she said, “I'm comfortable here, e. Nandito ang family ko and my friends.
"Doon, siya and my few friends. E, it's my first pregnancy."
