When Isabel Granada gave birth to her son Hubert in 2003, she made the decision to become less visible on television.
In fact, from 2004 to 2006, she took a break from showbiz so she could focus on her family.
Isabel's interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in 2011 further revealed her thoughts during that period:
"While I would like to believe that anyone can do what she wants to do, and be who she wants to be.
"At some point, you need to to step back and see where you want to make your life matter.
"Nung time na yun, I'd like to focus on motherhood."
On March 3, 2007, this writer's e-mail exchange with the actress gave a glimpse of her life as a mom.
At the time, she had just made her comeback, and was busy with two drama series on GMA—Sine Novela: Pasan Ko Ang Daigdig and Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan
HUBERT. She spoke so fondly of her son, who was then five years old.
"Hubert is very smart and he understands that everything that I do is for his future, education, and toys.
"So when I come home, he tells me, ‘Mama, I miss you, what's your pasalubong for me?'
"If ever I didn't bring any, he will say ‘it's okay, tomorrow na lang.'"
She described herself a "full-time mama."
"Kasi since his first day, kahit na caesarian ako, I was hands on.
"Ngayon, pag may work ako, may yaya siya na lahat ng bilin ko, nakasulat.
"But if I don't have work, kahit nandiyan ‘yang yaya, ako pa din paligo, magpakain, patulog, to keep that mother's touch."
OFF-CAM. Isabel leads an active lifestyle.
The Filipina-Spanish star is good in volleyball, and plays badminton regularly.
"I'm still hooked sa sports, tapings, except for schooling and flying."
She's a pilot, too.
But she mentioned in her email, "I haven't been flying for a while, but I have my private pilot license."
Isabel finished her Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering degree at Philippine Air Transport and Training Services College of Aeronautics in 2001.
For a time, she helped her ex-husband Geryk Aguas campaign in his bid for vice mayoralty in Angeles, Pampanga.
About being a politician's wife, she had said, "I don't choose who to be friends with, or I mean, lahat ng artista, staff, and crew nakakasundo ko kaagad.
"Observer ako. Di naman nano-notice 'yon at di ko minsan sadya, kaya lang, I know when a person is true or not."
ON CAM. The topic shifted to the industry where she practically grew up. She joined showbiz when she was ten years old.
What's her fondest memory?
"I guess it's doing the movie entitled Ligaya ang Itawag Mo sa Akin," which starred Rosanna Roces.
Isabel continued, "I won kasi the FAMAS Best Supporting Actress award nung 1998, and grabe, maganda ang movie.
She was also asked to compare showbiz in the 80s to what it was ten years ago.
"Work is a lot faster nowadays, but of course, I'd stick to hinay-hinay work ‘cause you get to motivate for a role and read the script, memorize.
"Sa actors, they become a lot more mature at a young age, na mabilis ang pagbinata at pagdalaga ng kilos.
"I just hope they're still guided very well by parents po, para di sila mabilis o madaling maligaw."
Isabel is close to her Spanish mom Isabel Villarama, aka Mommy Guapa.
"Being God-fearing was something I learned from her. So even my baby, he already knows how to pray."
