Kaye Abad might have played numerous mommy roles on television, but nothing compares to the feeling of being a real-life mom.
And she couldn't be any happier upon receiving what her husband Paul Jake Castillo described as "the best birthday gift!"
The Kapamilya actress gave birth to her son named Baby Joaquin on December 22, 2017, which was also Paul Jake's 33rd birthday.
In an exclusive interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP.ph) via Viber yesterday, December 28, Kaye recalled her "non-traumatic experience on giving birth."
According to the celebrity mom, their trip to her doctor in Makati Medical Center was supposedly just for check-up.
She narrated, "Then my OB [gynecologist] asked me if may labor pains na, kasi the night before, nag-monitor sila sa contractions ko.
"Every five [minutes] na siya.
"Wala naman akong pain pa na nafi-feel.
"She told me na mag-lunch muna since birthday ni PJ [Paul Jake].
"Then after, punta na daw ako sa delivery room.
"Hindi ko pa rin inisip na manganganak ako that day kasi wala pa nga akong pain na nafi-feel.
"But when I get to the [hospital] ayun na, my water broke."
In an Instagram post, she thanked her OB-gynecologists in Manila and Cebu plus her anaesthesiologist and Joaquin's pediatrician.
She also mentioned her preparations, which helped her deliver fast and without pain.
Kaye said, "I strictly followed what my OB [told] me."
Her doctor's number one reminder: No sugar.
Kaye resumed, "Kahit na tempting at times, titiisin ko talaga.
"Kasi tumaas sugar ko.
"I guess that helped a lot sa weight gain ng baby."
Laughing, she added, "After 1st trimester, the doctor told me na walking ako so lagi akong mag-grocery or malling para makapag-walking.
"I also drank raspberry leaf tea daily on my 36th week, sabi kasi nila, it can help you sa labor na shorter time."
Baby Joaquin's proud daddy uploaded this photo on Instagram and wrote, "That’s my bwooooi...... "
Gushing over her little one, Kaye said, "Can’t believe na he’s finally out.
"Parang kelan lang nasa tummy ko pa siya.
"I wasn't expecting na I’ll give birth that day.
"Everything happened so fast."
Like any new mom, Kaye said that she had her share of baby blues.
"Pero for two days lang," she clarified.
On what caused this anxiety, she told PEP.ph, "Pag iyak siya nang iyak and you don’t know what he needs.
"Yung feeling na baka you're not doing the right thing."
She added, "It breaks my heart seeing him crying 'tapos hindi mo siya mapatahan.
"And I guess kasama na din yung pagod."
By pagod, she meant, "Alam mo yung pagod ka na pero may certain energy ka pa rin to do stuff. Totoo pala yung sinasabi nila gagawin lahat ng ina para sa anak nila."
But with Paul Jake and other family members by her side, she was able to overcome her inner struggles.
Kaye commended her husband who's "always there kahit na busy siya sa work."
