Mount Kulis in Tanay, Rizal is becoming a popular destination for celebrities who want to relax and de-stress amid the pandemic.

Julia Barretto and Gerald Anderson recently made headlines after fans spotted subtle clues indicating they went on a hike together.

ABS-CBN actress Kristel Fulgar and vlogger-turned-actor Benedict Cua also visited Mount Kulis recently.

Mt. Kulis Summit

Mount Kulis is popular for its sea of clouds and its majestic view of the Sierra Madre mountain range. It is one of the best options for beginners who want to try hiking.

If you're planning to go on on a hike at Mount Kulis, here's everything you need to know:

To climb Mount Kulis, you have to book your visit through Fresno Agro Forestry and Eco Tourist Campsite on Facebook. The camp resort is located at Sitio Maysawa, Brgy. Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal.

The summit of Mount Kulis, Sambong Peak or Heart Peak, Spider Web, and Noah’s Ark are located in Camp A.

This kubo at Camp A has become a popular tourist spot in the camp resort. It is referred to as "Bahay ni Cardo," since it was used as a shooting location for ABS-CBN's prime-time series FPJ'S Ang Probinsyano.

Meanwhile, the Lion's House Falls, hanging bridge, and the river pool are located in Camp B. The Twin Rock formation, the Malinaw falls, and the cave are also located in Camp B.

However, the Malinaw falls and cave are currently inaccessible to tourists because the bridge going to these spots were destroyed by the typhoon Ulysses.

Fresno Agro-Forestry and Eco Tourist Campsite charges an entrance fee of PHP200 for day trips. This allows you to explore spots from either of the two areas in the resort from 4 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, for those staying overnight from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m., the entrance fee is PHP300.

Both routes require a mandatory tour guide for a fee of PHP500. This rate is good for a group of five people. There's an additional tour guide fee of PHP200 if you want to visit the Twin Rock, the Malinaw falls, and the cave on Camp B.

The rates are higher for those who want to visit all of the mentioned sites. The entrance fee is PHP300 for day trips or PHP500 for overnight visits, while the mandatory tour guide fee is PHP700. If your tour guide is staying with your group overnight, the rate is PHP1,250.

If you're planning to go on a day hike, wear comfortable hiking outfits. For those staying overnight, bring a jacket to keep you warm because it gets really chilly at night.

Visitors can pitch their own tents on the campsite. There is a pitching fee of PHP200 per tent. You can also rent a tent available on the site for PHP400 (good for two) or PHP600 (good for four), inclusive of mattings.

You can also rent one of the kubo or nipa huts located at Camp A. Their kubo rates are PHP1,000 (good for 2-4 pax), PHP2,500 (good for 6-8 pax), and PHP3,500 (good for 8-12 pax). Beddings, pillows, and blankets are included.

Bring enough food and water. Cooking is allowed but only through a butane stove. Bonfires and cooking with charcoal are strictly prohibited at the summit. Your other option to cook food is their paluto service in the sari-sari store inside the resort. Their rates for paluto is determined onsite.

The camp resort is implementing new protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Visitors are required to present the following: valid ID, booking confirmation which will be sent through e-mail by the staff, and a medical certificate from the municipality/city health office. The medical certificate attests that the bearer is not suspected case in their area, does not show any signs and symptoms of COVID-19, and is fit to travel or do tourism activities.

Medical certificates must be issued not longer than five days before their date of visit.

There are some guidelines visitors should follow once they enter the venue. The camp resort is also implementing a "clean as you go" policy. Please be mindful of your trash, most especially cigarette butts and plastic.

Also, respect the privacy of other guests in the campsite and minimize your noise. Quiet time starts at 10:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. As the old adage says: "Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time."
