Sa ikatlong pagkakataon ay muling tinanghal ang Pilipinas bilang “world's leading dive destination” sa ginanap na 2021 World Travel Awards.

Muling tinanghal ang Pilipinas bilang “world's leading dive destination” sa ginanap na 2021 World Travel Awards (WTA).

Ito na ang ikatlong magkakasunod na taon na napanalunan ng Pilipinas ang nasabing award.

Tinalo nito ang iba pang dive destinations sa mundo gaya ng Maldives, Great Barrier Reef sa Australia, Azores Islands, Bora Bora sa French Polynesia, Cayman Islands, Fiji, Galapagos Islands, at Mexico.

Ipinagmamalaki ng Pilipinas ang mga diving destinations nito na mayaman sa marine and aquatic resources na tahanan ng 600 coral species at 2,000 reef fish species.

Nasa dagat natin ang anim sa pitong species ng marine turtles sa buong mundo.

Kabilang sa top diving spots sa bansa ang Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park sa Palawan, Anilao sa Batangas, Malapascua at Moalboal sa Cebu, Balicasag, Panglao, at Anda sa Bohol, at Puerto Galera sa Oriental Mindoro.

Nagiging kilala na rin ang Samal at Talikud Island sa Davao del Norte; Balingoan, Talisayan, Medina, Magsaysay at Gingoog in Misamis Oriental; at Camiguin.

Nangako naman ang Department of Tourism na tutukuyin nito ang iba pang potential destinations para mas mapalawig pa ang dive tourism ng bansa.

Ayon kay Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat, “This distinction is indeed a great privilege, yet, it underlines our great responsibility of protecting and conserving our underwater resources so that these will also be enjoyed and experienced in their pristine natural state by future generations.”
