Janet McBride marks 23rd birthday with new telenovela

Janet McBride marks her 23rd birthday today with the premiere of her newest soap, Makita Ka Lang Muli, on GMA-7. Her co-stars include Roderick Paulate, Celia Rodriguez, Anna Roces, Andrea Del Rosario, and Carlo Aquino.

In an interview with GMA-7 showbiz talk show S-Files on November 5, Janet clarified two issues that have been hounding her ever since she returned to the country after a four-year hiatus in the United States: whether she got pregnant by DJ Mo Twister and if she is secretly married him while they were together abroad.

The former host of the now defunct ABS-CBN show Talk TV describes her simple life in the United States: "I started customer service jobs in malls, [and] department stores. I also became a photographer. More on family portraits, sa kids. Hindi ako nahihiya to have those odd jobs. I'm proud to say that I learned so much with those jobs. Enjoy pa ako. I needed to go through that. I am a working student. Mahirap din. You have to do what you can. Huling job ko was a call center [agent] working for a mutual funds company. Ok naman yung money dun. Wala naman [suffering]. I was humbled nga dun sa experience ko."

Janet sheds light about another issue regarding her live-in partner, DJ Mo Twister. She made it clear that they never got married in the US. "We've been together for seven years. Through that, it was just a mutual decision that we needed a break. We're still young. We were together very, very young. We needed that break. He wanted to go back sa radio show niya. He left. We still love each other. We're back now. Kami na."

She adds: "Para sa akin, wala pa sa timing siguro. Nag-aaral ako nun. I was able to finish high school. Mahirap talaga pag sabay. I also had two years of college there. We just feel that it's not right that time. Maybe in a few more years."

Another issue that she cleared out during the said talk show is her rumored pregnancy. The young star admits that she gained weight over the years. According to her, he weight gain is attributed to her lack of diet and exercise—not because of pregnancy. She says: "Sa totoo lang, I know the truth. I didn't have a baby. I didn't get married. I can be so bold to say kung sino man yung nagsasabi na buntis ako: ‘Ano itsura? Is it a boy or a girl? Babae ba o lalake?' Yes, tumaba ako when I left showbiz. Hindi na ako nagdi-diet and nagi-gym. I'm ok."

Now a year older, Janet says she's more prepared this time to face the intrigues that come with being in the spotlight. "I'm just always prepared. I don't want to take myself too seriously. Kasi ganito ang showbiz, puno ng intrigues. Ang mali ko before I didn't know how to handle it at all. Masyado akong young nung time na yun. Everything that I learned during the four years that I was gone, nagmature ako. I changed. I still want to be [a] professional."
