At the recently concluded SOP Music Awards, Lovi Poe was wide-eyed with disbelief as she accepted her Breakthrough Artist (Solo) trophy.
“I’m speechless,” exclaims the Bakekang star. “I’m very speechless. Masaya kasi talaga. First award ever. Ang sarap ng pakiramdam.”
The Colegio de San Agustin high school senior says she didn’t expect to win against Sitti, Jinky Vidal of Freestyle, Amber, and Richie Paul Gutierrez. “No! Actually nanginginig nga ako nung paakyat ako ng stage. I wasn’t expecting [it] nga.”
Though the recognition is a welcome surprise, Lovi admits that her celebration is not complete because she can not share it with her father, the late Fernando Poe Jr.
“Sad naman ako dahil wala siya dito to witness everything,” says the young actress in a somber mood. “Actually this award is not only for me, but for all the people who support me. Kasi, we all know how many detractors I have, but I was able to win this award. That’s why I dedicate this to all the people who supported me, and of course, to my dad who’s not here. I’m very thankful to god for giving me such blessings. He gave me a good career with Bakekang and all these things. Despite the hardships that I’m going through right now, talagang masaya ako dahil it’s all paid back kahit—sorry, naiiyak ako—kahit maraming bad stuff.”
Since her debut in showbiz, Lovi has received a lot of criticisms, and put-downs—saying that she was using her father’s fame to gain stardom, and that she wasn’t really close to The King to start with.
The showbiz neophyte has only this to say to all her critics: “Well, for my detractors, I don’t know kung anong magiging reaction nila. Anong ilalabas nilang bago. But then, I can not say anything to them. Wala nakong masabi. Ang hirap e. Ang masasabi ko lang is ‘yong sa supporters ko talaga, thank you.”
