Fired ABS-CBN PR director to sue the Kapamilya Network

Malamang na magkademandahan ang mga former officers and officemates of the Corporate Communication Division of ABS-CBN.

Leah Salterio, former ABS-CBN Press Relations (PR) Director, attended the Viva Records launching of Faith Cuneta's debut album sa The Podium lounge last Friday, February 2. Warmly welcomed si Leah ng mga kasamahan niya sa entertainment press. Leah was with the Philippine Daily Inquirer before joining ABS-CBN, but she maintained her prescence in media throughout her tenure as the network's PR by contributing by-lined pieces in the Philippine Star.

Thankful si Leah sa mga support na nakuha niya from her colleagues as she announced na hindi pa raw tapos ang laban dahil magdi-demanda siya against her former boss Maloli Espinosa, Vice President for Government, Corporate Affairs and Press Relations department of ABS-CBN, and the Kapamilya Network na rin.

Last January 31, Leah and Peachy Guioguio, PR manager for ABS-CBN, were summarily terminated effective 6 p.m. of the same day.

Lunchtime of January 31, ABS-CBN tendered a farewell party for Ms. Maloli sa Annabel's Restaurant attended by some entertainment writers and editors, at nina Leah and Peachy na rin. Maloli's resignation from her post was dated on that day, although she reportedly will still be in office until the end of February, kung kelan papasok ang kanyang replacement, si Bong Osorio. Maloli plans to run for the congressional seat of the 2nd district of Masbate.

Around 4 p.m., kumalat na sa text among entertainment writers na tinanggal daw ni Maloli sina Leah and Peachy nang araw ring yun. Sinabi rin sa text na the two were ordered to vacate their office by 6 p.m. This was said to be Maloli's last official act.

Ipinatawag daw sina Leah and Peachy sa opisina ni Maloli kung saan ginawa ang termination in the presence of an ABS-CBN Human Resource Division (HRD) officer. Isang rason lang ang kumalat noon sa text messages kung bakit sinesante sina Leah at Peachy abruptly—that they were still writing for the Philippine Star and getting paid for their articles even if they held positions as "officers" in ABS-CBN, which violates the network's rules of employment.

Mabilis na kumalat ang iba't-ibang balita na nagkasanga-sanga na dahil sa pagkabigla at pagkagulat ng lahat. There were also reports that the HRD held a full folder containing the cases brought up against the two, at doon nga raw ibinase ang pagkakatanggal sa dalawa. Sa huli, "termination with cause" at "loss of confidence" ang nakasaad sa termination papers.

Ipina-surrender diumano ang mga IDs nina Leah and Peachy, ipinakuha lahat ang personal effects, at strictly instructed daw sila to leave ABS-CBN after 6 p.m. on that very day. May nag-oversee rin daw sa kanila from the HRD as they collected their personal effects from their tables. Kukunin din diumano kay Leah ang company car issued to her if she is unable to pay the balance of the vehicle within the next 15 days.

Dahil "termination with cause," walang compensation na makukuha ang dalawa.

Sabi ni Leah during the Faith Cuneta press con, lalabanan niya ang ABS-CBN at magdi-demanda raw siya for the injustice done to her by Maloli and the Kapamilya Network. Leah, a single parent, plans to return to active writing.

Peachy, a former GMA-7 PR head, has remained silent, although Leah said the two are talking. Ang last text sa amin ni Peachy about the issue: "It's not the end of the world for me."

Si Amy Mosura ang tumatayong OIC sa job vacated by Leah. Karen dela Rosa, a staffer of Leah, resigned last Thursday.

As of this writing, wala pang official statement na iniri-release ang ABS-CBN regarding this matter. Maging si Maloli ay tahimik din, ngunit ang mga nakakakilala sa kaniya ay nagsasabing maaring may mabigat na dahilan kung bakit ang generally even-tempered and popular Maloli ay kumilos nang ganito.
