Lea Salonga releases first studio album in seven years

International star Lea Salonga releases her first studio album in seven years before flying to Broadway to do Les Miserables.

Lea Salonga returns to Broadway via Les Miserables, but not without releasing her first local studio album in seven years.

Sa February 22, mismong kaarawan ni Lea, babalik siya sa New York together with nine-month-old daughter Nicole Beverly and husband Robert Chien to start rehearsing for Les Miz, which is still playing at the Broadhurst Theater.

This will be Lea's second appearance in the Robert Mackintosh stage musical, Les Miserables. However, instead of playing Eponine as she did in 1993, Lea will now be playing the bigger role of Fantine, replacing Daphne Rubin-Vega. She was also part of the dream cast of the 10th anniversary of Les Miserables performed at the Royal Albert Hall sa London.

This is Lea's fourth Broadway appearance and her third Broadway musical. Nakilala ng buong mundo si Lea, dating taga-That's Entertainment, by becoming the original Miss Saigon noong 1989—una sa London and then sa New York. Lea registered a grand slam by winning Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical in 1990 sa Laurence Olivier (Olivier) Award for Miss Saigon, and in 1991 sa Antoinette Perry (Tony) Awards, The Drama Desk Award, and the Outer Critics Circle Award for the same play.

In 2002, she returned to Broadway for the revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Flower Drum Song, playing the role of a Chinese immigrant opposite Jose Llana, another Filipino actor-singer based in New York.

Before her return to Broadway this month, however, Lea released her first studio album in seven years, Inspired, from Sony-BMG Music Entertainment.

Inspired is a collection of her personal favorites and a few originals exclusively written for her by Jim Brickman ("To Hear You Say") and Lani Macaraeg ("Do You Hear It"). Kasama rin dito ang kanilang official wedding song ni Robert na "Two Worlds" written by Louie Ocampo.

"The Promise" is the carrier song of Lea's album, which also includes "Who Are You," "When October Goes," "Brian's Song," "Sing," "When The Winter's Gone," Land of the Loving," "Waiting for Love," and "My Foolish Heart."

A special MYX Presents Lea Salonga was also taped by the music channel of ABS-CBN and will be aired on March 15 to coincide with the MYX Music Awards 2007.

Ang kapatid ni Lea na si Gerard Salonga ang nag-conduct ng Philharmonic Orchestra that backed Lea in both the TV special and the album recording.
