Mother Lily endorses Tito Sotto's senatorial bid

"I pray that people will stop judging you on things that have no basisin facts, but rather, applaud you for the many good things you havealready done, which is a matter of public record. Let's not allow TitoSotto to be a victim of rumor mongering," says Mother Lily Monteverde (pictured, with Tito's wife, Helen Gamboa).

Lily Monteverde—or Mother Lily to most showbiz folks—sponsored a showbiz gathering last night, March 27, at her Imperial Palace Suites. The Regal matriarch, who usually holds press conferences for her films at the said venue, invited the entertainment press for a different agenda.

"Tito Sotto is running for his third term as a senator, and I am backing him up one thousand percent," said Mother Lily about senatorial candidate Vicente "Tito" Sotto. "Like him, I believe that we should stop wasting time on useless politicking and bickering, and simply unite to solve the many problems facing the country."

Tito is the fourth senatorial candidate that Mother Lily is endorsing this coming elections—the other three are Kiko Pangilinan, Chiz Escudero, and Migz Zubiri.

She said in her speech, "Senator Sotto, I believe in your integrity, your intelligence, and in your passion to be of service to the country. I pray that people will stop judging you on things that have no basis in facts, but rather, applaud you for the many good things you have already done, which is a matter of public record. Let's not allow Tito Sotto to be a victim of rumor mongering. Rather, let his return to the senate be a triumph for all of us, the Filipino people."

After being affiliated with former president Joseph "Erap" Estrada and the late Fernando "Ronnie" Poe, Jr. for the longest time, Tito was not given a spot at the opposition's line-up. He jumped the fence and joined TEAM Unity.

His critics have branded him as "balimbing."

He defended himself, "For the record, kami ni Erap magkaibigan, but we have never been partymates. Kahit kailan hindi kami naging magkapartido ni Erap sa pulitika. His party has always been GAD, naging Liberal siya, tapos naging PMP [Partido ng Masang Pilipino] siya. Naka-tatlong palit si Erap ng partido.

"Ako, Laban from 1988 up to the time na nag-Cha-Cha [Charter Change] ang Laban, ang LDP [Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino], that was the time that I left.
