Before starting her Bible study session with a couple of girlfriends—including Janet McBride and Dimples Romana—at the Podium, Donita Rose Villarama agreed to talk with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
The former veejay, now housewife and mom has good news to tell.
Today, May 29, people who have a TFC (The Filipino Channel) account can watch Donita and a couple of friends in a documentary about one of the most beautiful vacation spots in the country, Boracay.
It's entitled Boracay 007. Four guys are producing the show: Alvin Anson; Koy Rivera, a deejay in 99.5-FM; Ariel Abraham, a retired US Navy commander; and Cyril Lorenzana, an indie film director who graduated from the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA).
Donita says, "They are very good friends na paboritong pumunta ng Boracay. So, in one of those trips, naisipan nila to put up a business venture and this is what they came up with—their own Moguls Productions.
"Ariel owns Boracay Beach Club where he has his Café Mediterranean restaurant. So, lagi silang nandoon. And naisip nila that they wanted to come up with a docu that will showcase the beauty of the island and what it could offer from the tourists' perspective.
"Their target is to promote the island of Bora to tourists all over the world, especially our balikbayans. Kasi, they observed na hindi talaga pumupunta ang mga balikbayans natin in Bora. Since marami pa silang friends na nagustuhan ang idea nila, they found barkadas as well who were willing na mag-tie-up sa production. So, meron silang nagagamit na yacht owned by a commander, may iba pang hotels, and even diplomats are in it."
Donita is co-hosting the docu with Alvin and another deejay named Li'l Joe.
"Sabi ko nga, it's an excuse to get a vacation and get paid," says Donita excitedly. "Every day, iba-iba ang activities, and that's what they will see in the show—scuba diving, jetskiing, parasailing, horseback riding, and parties. So, wala kaming script. Sinusundan lang kami ng two cams with whatever it is we do in the island.
"We did the first episode last October . It was sort of a primer, especially for the foreigners who would want to go to Bora. So, it was more on the info they can get about getting to Boracay and stuff.
"Three weeks ago, we did na the next part, Bora 008. And in that episode, I had my husband Eric and son JP with me. It's cool to be a part of a show you can be proud of, because you are showcasing something about your country to the whole world. Our next feature will be Palawan."
How can she say she's happy to be showcasing something about the Philippines kung siya mismo ay hindi na rito nakatira?
"There's a good turn of event with my life. Before all these happened, I was thinking na nga talaga of really quitting na showbiz and stay and support na lang my husband. After I did Bora, Eric asked me, ‘Sweetheart, I have a question. Every time ba you go to work ba, para itong Bora activity?' When I told him yes, sabi niya, he cannot take this away from me. Ako naman, I wanted Eric naman to fulfill his dreams, so I was set na to start a life with him sana in Las Vegas," narrates Donita.
She adds, "Feeling ko, Eric is so in love with me, na lahat talaga ng gusto ko pagbibigyan niya. And same with me sa kanya. Kaya nga ako ‘yong laging nagi-guilty. Kasi nandito ako [sa Pilipinas] lagi to work and I leave him in Singapore. Marami rin siyang offer in the US.
"Sabi namin, when we came up with the decision, not everything is pera-pera lang. So, as it is with our relationship, we prayed hard that God will lead us to a wise decision. And after the Bora thing, there came a big offer for me here! It still is under wraps. But it is something that will make me stay here na for a long time.
"Sabi ni Eric, he does not wanna take that away from me. And timing naman din, his company in Singapore called TRYBE, is putting up a company here din pala. All the time we were praying for answers, his boss—our friend Rachel—was having these plans na pala."
Their son JP is back in Eric's care now. But the family will be complete when June 9 comes, as the couple celebrate their 4th wedding anniversary.
"Kaya, the good news is, Eric is moving here na rin in September. Kaya, we're all set to look for a house and start a life here as a family. Binibiro ko nga si Eric. Sabi ko, mag-showbiz na rin siya because he's so funny. And apart from that, he's very talented and creative. Nagsulat nga siya ng script, sort of a reality show. E, he's such a comedian. Sabi niya, ‘pag nag-showbiz daw siya, he will use the screen name Eric V.'
"It will really be hard din lang for him to leave his students there. Kasi, apart from what he's doing in the office, sa company nila, he also goes to the different schools as a motivational speaker. Minsan nga, may mga nagpapa-autograph pa sa kanya there.
"Our good friend DJ Mo [Twister] has prodded him na rin nga to try working on the radio. Well, if TRYBE's plans won't push through immediately, he might consider that. Of course, he will do the wholesome bit.
"I also had an offer from Mo, sa radio. For a new program on 89.9. Hindi ko nga tinatanggap then because it's a weekly thing, and I have to be in Singapore pag tapos na ako sa mga commitments ko here. Sabi ko pa sa kanya, I don't live here na. Pero today, when I told him na of the new turn of events, kakatuwa his text messages. He's been doing na nga raw backflips dahil he's happy to know I'm staying here na for good. And he'll have that chance din daw to get to know Eric better."
Marami pa kaming pinag-usapan ni Donita. And after a while, I joined her and her girlfriends in their weekly Bible study. The topic of which was about "Women Encouraging Other Women and People About God's Words."
