"Desperadas" included in final three MMFF chosen entries

Regal Entertainment's Desperadas is among the final three films selected by the Metro Manila Film Festival executive committee. Ruffa Gutierrez (left) is the only one retained from the original cast. She will be joined by Iza Calzado (right), Marian Rivera, and Rufa Mae Quinto (center).

This year, the MMFF screening committee gave the producers the choice kung kailan nila gustong ipalabas ang pelikula nilang isasali.

Last Thursday, lunch time, na-announce ang tatlong pelikulang ipapalabas sa January 1st as part of the Magic 9 movies na kasali for this year's festival—isang drama, isang action, at isang comedy.

Desperadas ang third movie ng Regal na kahalok sa MMFF this year. A comedy patterned after the hit US series Desperate Housewives, tungkol ito sa apat na magkakapatid sa ina at nakatira sa isang compound. This was originally conceived by Regal Films na pagsasama-samahan nina Ruffa Gutierrez, Dawn Zulueta, Gretchen Barretto, and Pops Fernandez.

Sa originally submitted proposed cast, it was listed na sina Ruffa Gutierrez, Carmina Villaroel, Sheryl Cruz, and Janice (or Gelli) de Belen ang magbibida sa pelikula.

To be directed by Jose Balagtas, ang listed stars sa movie ay sina Manny, Ara Mina, Valerie Concepcion, and Roi Vinzon.

Drama ang isinumite ng another first-time production, ComGuild, ang Banal. To be directed by Cesar Apolinario, it will star Marvin Agustin, Dingdong Dantes, Iza Calzado, Jaclyn Jose, Joel Torre, and Pepe Smith.

Walong entries ang sumali for the January 1st opening, the other five being Red Sun Production's Dito sa Puso Ko, a comedy musical movie that would have starred Ogie Alcasid, Iza Calzado, and Mina Morales under the direction of Romy Suzara; a social satire from Artiste Entertainment Works na Ataul For Rent starring Jaclyn Jose, Joel Torre, Irma Adlawan, Ronnie Lazaro, Pen Medina, Noni Buencamino, and Coco Martin to be directed by Neal Buboy Tan; the horror comedy from MJM Entertainment na Horror Haus that would star Ai-Ai delas Alas, Jennylyn Mercado, Christopher de Leon, Cindy Kurleto, Iwa Moto, Jackie Rice, Bembol Roco, and Al Tantay, directed by Don Remo; and two other Regal entries na Super Heroes starring Richard Gutierrez, Maja Salvador, Katrina Halili, Gladys Guevarra, and Nash Aguas sa direction ni Gilbert Perez, and My Mother: Mano Po 6 that would have starred Angel Locsin, Dennis Trillo, Angelica Panganiban, and Jennylyn Mercado sa direction ni Joel Lamangan.
