Actress Isabel Granada revives career with indie movie "Xenoa"

Fans of Isabel Granada can expect to see more of her in the indie film Xenoa and on the cover of a gadget magazine in the next few months.

Former That's Entertainment star Isabel Granada met with the press last Friday, July 6, to promote her comeback movie at the Greens Restaurant in Quezon City.

Initially, the 30-year-old actress was supposed to play a mother in the independent film Xenoa. However, when the director Sean Lim met with the mestiza beauty, he changed his mind and, instead, offered her a role as Eli, one of the three siblings in the sci-film film.

"Yung role na bininigay sa akin noong una, 'yung Queen, the mother of the three siblings. E, nung nagkita kami [laughter], nag-change siya ng mind. Sabi niya, ‘Naku, parang hindi yata dapat sa ‘yo 'yung mother role.' Mama dapat ako nina Paolo [Ballesteros] kaya lang parang masyado 'atang malapit 'yung edad."

"One month namin ginawa pero not straight. It took us like two weeks to finish," she narrates. "Simple lang ang role ko lang noong una, simpleng alien na naging human. Nilagyan niya ng mga drama scenes.

"Since comeback film ko naman ito, why would I request for more? Happy na ako."

Isabel recalls that her latest movie projects were in 2001 when she was part of Halik ng Sirena and in 2000 when she was part of Anghel de la Guardia. Her last TV project was in the ABS-CBN soap opera Sa Puso Ko Iingatan Ka in 2002.

When asked if she plans to have another child now that her son, Hubert, is now four years old, she declares, "Siguro next year. Pagpa-planuhan ng mabuti kasi kung ang career nandiyan naman, sayang naman kasi minsan lang dumating ulit."

She also reveals that she wants her next child to be a girl so she can name her Isabel VII, continuing the family tradition of naming the women of the family as Isabel. Her mother, Isabel V, is known as Mommy Guwapa.

Now that she is intent on reviving her showbiz career, Isabel says that she has the full support of her husband, Geryk Genasky Aguas, who is currently involved in some business ventures in Pampanga after losing his vice-mayoralty bid in the 2007 elections.

"Ever since, I got married, wala kaming question-and-answer portion kung gagawin ko 'yung film because he knows me naman, e. And alam ko rin naman ang limitations ko."

Part of knowing her limitations includes her decision to finally pose for the cover of a magazine.

"I'd still go for drama and kung meron mang offers na medyo sophisticated or medyo seductive, hindi sexy as in bold, ha.

"Meron akong offer sa magazine. It's not FHM pero basta...makikita n'yo na lang. Tinanggap ko na kasi it's more of mga gadgets...cellphones. Lalabas siya August or September issue.

Did she inform her husband about this photo shoot?

"Yes. In fact, sabi nga niya, ‘Isabel, they know you naman as ingat ang image.' It's more of a wholesome image so ipakita mo naman 'yung...Siyempre, mother na tayo kaya di naman pwedeng magpaka-sexy ng sobra, di ba? Basta, mild lang siya.

"There are some sexy shots that depend on how you pose and how you project. Hindi porke't sexy ang suot mo...Minsan kahit balot na balot ko, kung seductive ang iyong look, seductive pa rin ang tingin sa 'yo, e. Mababastos ka pa rin kung ganun ka. 'Yun nga 'yung sabi ng mom ko, wala 'yun sa suot mo. Minsan kahit napaka-sexy mo, kung papaano ka iti-treat ng tao 'yun ang dapat mong alamin.

"Whatever clothes I may be wearing, it depends on how you project."

Xenoa will be screened in SM digital cinemas from August 22 - 28, 2007.
