In this 26-minute and 24-second video uploaded by YouTube user Rody Duterte, Davao mayor and presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte relates the Davao Penal Colony incident that happened in 1989, which took the lives of 15 inmates and 5 hostages, including Australian lay missionary Jacqueline Hamill.
Duterte was criticized for his speech in a campaign rally recently, where he shared to his supporters the story of what he did during the hostage-taking incident in Davao.
Critics of Duterte said the mayor made a bad joke about Hamill who was raped and killed by her hostage-takers.
In this new video (above), Duterte says he was not joking when he told about the Davao hostage-taking incident in the said campaign rally. He explains he only told what he actually said when he finally saw the bodies of the victims of the hostage-takers. In a fit of anger, he uttered words he claims as "gutter language."
He also admits to leading the assault against the hostage-takers and was among those who killed the 15 inmates.
He, however, apologized to the Filipinos for his language, but says he will not say sorry to women's rights group Gabriela or any other group.
