At 25 years old, Iza Calzado is now a certified investor.
During the press conference of Ouija at Plaza Ibarra in Quezon City, Iza excitedly told reporters about her investment in The Tides, a 60-room resort located in Station 2 of Boracay. The actress, who plays the role of Sandra in Ouija, told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last July 12, that she invested almost P1 million for the resort.
"Marami kami...Tim Yap, Robbie Carmona, Juan Elizalde, Stephen Cu, Erik Cua (who is also an investor in Embassy), my boyfriend [Jerry Garcia], ako, and GP Reyes."
When asked why she chose this line of business, she explained, "Friends ko kasi 'yun and it's an opportunity. Right now sa Boracay, in the next few years, wala kang talo doon. Especially since it's in the heart of it. It's at the D'Mall. And I believe in my partners.
"Actually, sinuwerte lang din ako na in-offer sa akin iyon. They were looking for investors. Gusto nila, ‘pag tiningnan 'yung line up of investors, mapapagkatiwalaan raw."
Iza also said that she waited for the go-signal of her boyfriend before pursuing this investment. "Jerry was an investment banker before. He knows pretty much what he's doing," she says confidently.
"We checked it a month ago. Maganda siya. Hindi pa siya tapos na tapos. 'Yung pool ‘di pa siya tapos kaya hindi pa kami nag-grand launch. Dapat July [ang launch] pero baka August na lang. It has 60 rooms, if I'm not mistaken. Around 25 to 30 of them are functional right now."
The design of The Tides is "very chic" according to Iza.
FUTURE INVESTMENTS. Iza admits that she is thinking of investing her hard-earned money in various ventures while she is still young. "I'm still trying to think of a business na sa akin. Siyempre, takot din ako dati. Hindi naman pwedeng padalos-dalos. Nag-invest ako dati sa kotse. 'Yung tatay ko, natulungan ko rin bumili ng kotse."
But temptations still manage to get the best of her. "Siyempre, there's a time na may luho ka rin—damit, damit. Naku, kaya sabi ko sa sarili ko, ‘Stop shopping, paminsan-minsan lang.'"
The young actress is also seriously thinking of buying her own house in the near future. "Yung gusto kong bilhin, three- or four-bedrooms is fine. Simple lang na bahay pero gusto ko sana maganda 'yung location. Security is very important rin sa akin. New Manila is a perfect area since nandun 'yung Daddy ko saka 'yung Kuya ko," she says.
Will this house be her abode with her longtime boyfriend Jerry?
"It's not our house. I'm looking for my place that I can call my own before I get to marriage. Di ba, you should have something that you can call your own, tinuro ng Nanay ko 'yan sa akin," Iza ends.
