Although he admitted that he was initially shocked, Dondie Prats immediately regained his composure when he was informed of his daughter's pregnancy.
"I couldn't say it was a disappointment, but actually it's a shock. But I know it's coming...I know it's coming because she's already 22," said the soft-spoken father of young actress Camille Prats in an exclusive interview with John "Sweet" Lapus in Showbiz Central aired yesterday, September 9.
Typical of a parent, Dondie's instant reaction was to determine whether the father of his soon to be apo would be capable of taking on such a serious responsibility.
"Ang number one tanong ko sa kanya, kung papaano niya bubuhayin yung anak ko? Kasi although hindi naman maluho si Camille, siyempre I want the best life for my daughter," said Dondie.
Camille's non-showbiz boyfriend, Anthony Linsagan, bravely faced Mr. Prats to tell him that he is ready to face the consequences of their actions.
"Sinabi naman niya na may pera siya, may bahay sa Alabang na puwede tumira si Camille... So 'yon, nag-heart to heart talk na kami. Tinanong ko siya kung gaano niya kamahal si Camille, sabi niya, mahal na mahal niya," added Mr. Prats.
A GENUINE PERSON. A few hours before her scheduled flight to the United States, Camille, along with her 27-year-old boyfriend gave their first public interview at Showbiz Central.
In the said interview, Camille revealed that Anthony's unassuming character was like a breath of fresh air to her.
"Ang nagustuhan ko sa kanya, he was very spontaneous. He was very real, hindi siya yung tipong sobrang conscious sa sasabihin niya. Hindi siya yung sasabihin sa 'yo kung ano yung gusto mong marinig. He's very natural at siguro sa mundo ng showbiz that's something we all look for—someone who's very genuine, someone who's very real," she said about her boyfriend.
The former child star met Anthony, who is a family friend, back when she was still in grade school.
Camille also grabbed the opportunity to clear the issue linking her to Toni Gonzaga's current squeeze, director Paul Soriano.
"Si Paul kasi is someone I met last year at a party, kasi friend siya ng friend ko...and it was nothing. It was just that," she clarified.
THE RIGHT TIME. Hiding the pregnancy wasn't part of the plan according to Camille. However, given the seriousness of her condition, she wanted to announce the news at her own pace.
"Hindi ko talaga inisip na itago. I just wanted to find the right time, in my own terms to come out and tell the people about my situation. Kasi, una, wala naman akong dapat ikahiya.
"It's such a wonderful blessing, it's a wonderful gift given to us by God, and, pangalawa, lumaki ako sa industriyang ito. Dito ako nagsimula. Halos lahat ng pangarap ko natupad because of this industry, and I think I owe it to the public—to those na sumusuporta sa akin ever since I was kid, yung mga nagmamahal sa akin—I think I owe them the truth about my life. It's a blessing and I'm very proud of it, and I don't regret anything."
Her biggest concern, at first, was her family—how are they going to take the pregnancy news?
"May guilt kasi I don't want them to go through that [the pregnancy news]. Siyempre yung sakit and all that, 'yon yung hindi ko ginusto talaga. Dun ako medyo nahirapan kasi I know they don't deserve that. Tsaka, pangalawa, ayoko na sisihin nila yung sarili nila na sila yung nagkamali or sila yung nagkulang kung bakit nangyari sa akin ito," she said while wiping her tears.
Fortunately, Camille's family had taken things well.
"They never made me feel na kasalanan ko o sinisi nila ako sa nangyari," Camille confided to Sweet.
"Ang unang reaction nila ay yung suporta, 'yon yung ibinigay nila sa akin. Walang sumbat, wala akong narinig anything na masakit, saan ba kami nagkamali, walang ganun, wala, wala talaga."
Anthony also faced the camera and vowed to take care of Camille and their baby—a boy they will name Nathan.
