Superstar Nora Aunor was finally cleared by a Los Angeles court of a drug possession case filed against her in 2005.

Noranians now have reason to celebrate.

Superstar Nora Aunor was finally cleared of the drug possession case slapped against her by a Los Angeles, California court after she complied and religiously adhered to a six-month drug rehabilitation program.

The decision was meted out after Nora's drug test proved negative.

It was earlier reported by QTV 11's Balitanghali that the multi-awarded actress willingly subjected herself to a rehabilitation facility and completed the terms and conditions given under the court-ordered drug diversion program.

Sources said that Nora Cabaltera Villamayor in real life was ecstatic upon hearing the decision. Nora's U.S. record would be good as new, as her acquittal automatically scrapped the drug-related charges from her papers.

Nora was required by the court, however, to pay a $250 fine, which is equivalent to almost P11, 250 in our currency.

A LOOK BACK. On March 30, 2005, Nora was arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport for allegedly carrying an illegal substance and paraphernalia in her possession. The drug was later identified as metamphetamine, popularly known for its street name shabu.

According to the details presented by the arresting authorities, eight grams of metamphetamine was found in Nora's carry-on bag together with a glass pipe wrapped in a t-shirt. She was on her way back supposedly to San Francisco after attending a business trip in Los Angeles.

A preliminary hearing took place on May 26, 2005, with Nora entering a "not guilty" plea. Nora's attorney throughout the proceedings was Filipina lawyer Claire N. Espina. Nora then posted a $10, 000 bail with her lawyer quickly announcing that the Superstar would still honor her April 30 concert in Reno, a Los Angeles show set on May 6 and a May 7 concert scheduled in Las Vegas.

The rehabilitation program that eventually saved Nora from a prison sentence was suggested by a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge upon issuing a Deferred Entry of Judgment (DEJ), consequently delaying the sentence for 18 months.
