After a few months of floating in limbo, young actress Jennylyn Mercado is back in GMA-7's new primetime soap La Vendetta.
"Happy and very thankful," Jennylyn told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) along with the other members of the press last night, October 23, Tuesday. The interview took place during La Vendetta's press conference held at Ilustrado restaurant in Intramuros, Manila.
It is common knowledge that Jennylyn has been going through a lot of stress during the past couple of months due to the strained relationship between her manager, Becky Aguila, and Jen's home network, GMA-7.
The entire conflict started middle of this year when Angel Locsin, who is also Becky's talent, decided to transfer to ABS-CBN. Slighted by the decision, GMA-7 expressed disappointment and accused its former talent and her manager of leaving without bothering with the courtesies of a resignation expected of a prized talent.
With Jennylyn still very much in Becky's stable and also in the Kapuso network, the young actress was caught in the middle of the cold war between her beleaguered manager and her aggrieved home network. Jennylyn's stress was compounded by the news that all projects originally intended for her were cancelled by GMA-7.
Although Jen kept assuring the media and the public that the problem was under control, it became obvious that the tension was starting to take its toll on her mental and emotional well-being. She was often reported sick during those times.
NO FINGER POINTING. Last Friday, October 19, Angel was asked by the entertainment press what she thought about Jennylyn's fragile state.
Knowing full well that some people were still blaming her for Jen's current dilemma, Angel defended herself. She actually ended up lecturing Jen like an elder sister would.
"Siya, kailangan niyang alagaan yong sarili niya. Kailangan niya ding i-prove kung anong worth niya," said an emotional Angel.
Jennylyn was aware of the comments made by Angel, and was prodded to respond by the reporters that swarmed around her immediately after the La Vendetta presscon.
"Siguro naman kayo, narinig ninyo naman na never akong nanisi," said the soft-spoken young actress.
"Hindi ko sinisi si Angel. Hindi ko naman sinabi na siya ang may kasalanan ng lahat ng ito. Never lumabas sa bibig ko 'yon. So malabo, malabo na pagbintangan ko siya," she added.
STILL UNDER BECKY'S WING. All told, don't expect to see Jennylyn with a new manager. At least not for the time being.
"Manager ko pa din po si Tita Becky... okay na po kami," announced Jennylyn.
Disproving talks that both parties were on the verge of going their separate ways, Jen narrated how she and Becky ironed out all the issues that threatened to break their professional relationship.
"Nag-usap kami last night [October 22]. Nag-dinner kami, and inayos po namin lahat ng dapat ayusin—'yong mga issues na lumalabas tungkol sa aming dalawa, and nilinaw namin nang sa aming dalawa, in private."
Jen admitted that she took advantage of the meeting to confront Becky about the issue that Becky was contemplating dropping the young actress from her roster of talents. Becky denied that she was.
"Isa iyon sa mga napag-usapan," said Jen. "Hindi mo naman malalaman kung hindi mo itatanong mismo sa kanya."
Hoping to put all the nasty rumors to rest, Jen once again reassured everyone, especially the press, "Basta kami, okay na kami ni Tita Becky, and wala din kaming problema ni Angel. Gusto kong linawin na hindi ko siya [Angel] pinagbintangan dahil never lumabas sa bibig ko na pinagbibitangan ko siya. Hindi ko naman sinabi na siya ang may kasalanan."
