Pure Filipino ang newcomer na si Victor Aliwalas. His mother is from Pampanga and his father is from Bicol. In the late ‘70s, his parents migrated to the U.S. kung saan ipinanganak si Victor at ang kanyang sister who is ten years older than him.
Victor was born on September 7 in Columbus, Ohio. When he was three years old, they moved to upstate New York where he grew up and finished his schooling in Le Moines College with a degree in Finance.
While in school, Victor was so big—his sport is power lifting—he even worked as a bouncer in a bar in New York called Armory Club. Dito na lang siya sa Pilipinas nagpapayat and he had to lose over 40 pounds. So from his original 200 pounds, he is now down to 160 lbs in his 5'10" frame.
Victor considers himself every inch a Filipino.Very active ang parents niya in Filipino community affairs sa kanilang hometown.
Last year, he came to the Philippines for a vacation. He was discovered by a talent manager and introduced to GMA-7, kung saan binigyan siya agad ng three-year contract with GMA Artist Center.
Victor did several commercials and hosting jobs for AVP. Last December, he decided to spend the holidays in New York. Isang buwan ang plano ni Victor ngunit after two weeks, he was asked to return to Manila dahil ipapasok siya sa Marimar to playMarimar's attorney, Adrian Alasco (in the original Thalia series, it was Adrian Rosales).
Kinabukasan pa lang paglapag niya sa Pilipinas, dumiretso na siya sa Pampanga for the taping—jet lag and heavy New York accent included.
"It was hard, the lines were long and I'm not that good yet, so I requested that they change certain lines to English first. Konti lang muna Tagalog," kuwento ni Victor sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) over cheesecake and coffee sa may Tomas Morato Ave., Q.C. yesterday afternoon, February 13.
Kung si Victor ang masusunod, hosting lang sana ang gusto niyang gawin. But since he cannot let this opportunity pass, tinanggap niya na rin ang Marimar. Sa ngayon, bukod sa self-study, kukuha na rin siya ng tutor para mapabilis siyang matuto ng Tagalog.
He didn't know how big Marimar is until he attended the premiere night of the Regal Entertainment and GMA Films' My Best Friend's Girlfriend, starring Richard Gutierrez and Marian Rivera, last Sunday, February 10. Victor plays one of the circle of friends of Ehra Madrigal in the movie.
"Nagulat ako people know me. They call me ‘Attorney' or ‘Adrian,' or even my name, Victor. I know Marimar is the number one show now, but I didn't expect people to know me because I have such a small part in the series," kuwento ni Victor na talagang amazed.
Kahit ang pamilya niya at mga kaibigan niya sa States, nag-e-email or tumatawag daw sa kanya just to tell him na napanood siya sa Marimar sa GMA PinoyTV.
"Now, all of my relatives and friends, and even some of my American friends have satellite dish to get Pinoy TV," natatawang sabi ni Victor. "When I started, everything was just fun for me. Now, I consider this work and I would love to stay and make a mark."
Bilang pa-impress naman last Christmas, mga pictures ni Marian at mga FHM magazines kung saan tampok si Katrina Halili ang ipinamigay ni Victor na regalo sa kanyang mga kaibigan.
"I tell them, see who I work with, and they all tell me I'm so lucky to work with such beautiful ladies. Some are even asking for their numbers," kuwento ng baguhang aktor.
Walang girlfriend ngayon si Victor who is "so torpe" raw, he couldn't do small talk with either Marian or Katrina, and so conservative he can't say 'No' upfront when offered sexy roles.
We asked Victor kung sino ang mas gusto niya kina Katrina at Marian, pero hindi siya makapili dahil both are "maganda, mabait, and sexy."
