Things are undoubtedly looking up for young actor Dingdong Dantes and he couldn't ask for more.
Last March 14, Marimar capped its phenomenal run with a staggering 52.6 percent rating. The grade posted by Marimar shattered the previous record set by Darna on April 14, 2005. Darna, which was top-billed by erstwhile GMA-7 star Angel Locsin, registered a rating of 52.1 percent and held on to the feat for the longest time before the tandem of Dingdong and Marian Rivera came along.
Aside from the success of Marimar, Dingdong was also chosen by local retail giant Bench to be its new face. To make things public and official, a giant billboard showing the young actor clad only in underwear was presented to the public last March 8 in Guadalupe, Makati City.
A week after, Dingdong was presented anew to the press, this time as endorser for the pain reliever Medicol.
WORKING LIKE A DOG. Dingdong admitted that the past few weeks have been exceptionally crazy as he found himself juggling his time to accommodate all of his commitments.
While all the work is undeniably fulfilling, the physical demands of pushing himself to the limit did somehow shake the good-looking actor. If there's anything he missed during those crazy work-filled days, it was none other than the luxury of having enough sleep.
"Last week ng Marimar, hindi [nakatulog] as in araw-araw siya," confided Dingdong yesterday to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and two lucky PEPsters who won the meet-and- greet contest. The meeting took place yesterday, March 17, at the Circle Café in Timog, Quezon City.
Dingdong gave a vivid picture of his tight schedule, particularly during the tail end of Marimar's primetime campaign.
"Monday, Tuesday, Thursday," said Dingdong about Marimar's shooting days.
"Monday, matatapos siya ng mga alas-otso ng umaga, tutulog ka lang ulit ng konti, 'tapos magsu-shoot ka ulit ng twelve. 'Tapos, Wednesday, ganung umaga ulit, so patay na yong Wednesday mo e noong week na ‘yon, yun din ang shoot ko ng Medicol, so tumuloy pa rin ako. As in one week wala talaga kong tulog."
Dingdong is making the most of his short break this Holy Week by resting fully before he plunges back to work in his upcoming telefantasya series, Dyesebel. He will be paired once again with young charmer Marian Rivera.
PEP asked Dingdong about his usual Holy Week routine.
"Most of the week, Manila ako. I enjoy the quiet atmosphere. Pero siguro towards the weekend, usually biglaan ‘yong mga yaya e. Depende lang kung saan, kahit saan huwag lang lumipad [air travel]. ‘Yong dito lang, puwedeng marating ng lupa," he smiled in closing.
