Ruffa Gutierrez talks about pain and healing

When asked if she is open to the possibility of finding a new love, Ruffa Gutierrez says: "If you're asking me if I'm ready to have a serious relationship, definitely not...to have a serious relationship, that is far from my mind. Honestly, can I heal first?"

TV host-actress Ruffa Gutierrez is now a product endorser of pills that help maintain a person's healthy gastro-intestinal system. But with all the buzz about her estranged husband Yilmaz Bektas hooking up with a former beauty queen like herself, is Ruffa's heart as healthy as her tummy?

In the presscon for Xando Tummy Tablets held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel last April 8, PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) interviewed Ruffa regarding the difficulties she went through when she decided to leave Yilmaz.

When asked to describe the state of her heart right now, Ruffa said, "Alam mo, umiiyak pa rin ako kasi yung pain, nand'yan pa. You have to remember, I was the one who left for Istanbul to begin with and I've already moved on. It hasn't been easy, but I think the pain is still there because it's still very fresh, and he's the father of my kids."

She added that putting an end to any relationship is painful and, in her case, emotionally draining. "You talk, you fight, then you talk again, you cry, you talk some more, you fight again, you cry again. Talagang for five days puro gano'n, so talagang stressful. But I think the point here is, kahit mahal mo you just have to do what is right."

Her Turkish husband has been in the news recently for having an alleged relationship with 2006 Ms. Universe Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza of Puerto Rico.

To this report, Ruffa responded, "Well, he keeps saying that all these beauty queens are his business partners. My goodness! Ano kaya ang bago nilang business?"

Kidding aside, she said seriously, "Kanina lang, may pinadala na naman sa akin yung friend ko from OK! magazine. Ang dami na namang pictures with the same woman. And whether they're business partners or not, I don't care anymore. I don't really care kung ano ang relationship nila."

Did she get hurt after seeing these pictures of Yilmaz having a good time with Zuleyka? "Hindi ako na-hurt kasi matagal ko nang narinig yung name niya, e. So it really doesn't surprise me."

Ruffa believes that it would be weird if someone like Yilmaz, whom she described as "a 30-year old single man with a lot of money," didn't have a girlfriend.

"I mean, hello! Yung mga pangit nga, Diyos ko, ang daming girlfriends! Si Yilmaz pa kaya? So I think what would be surprising is kung walang ma-link sa kanya."

But despite the alleged affair, the mother of Yilmaz's children also observed that her ex-husband has shown efforts to patch things up with her.

"I think [it's in] this last trip [of his], I mean, all the time naman, e. The effort is always there and all. But right now, let's just take things a day at a time and just move on with the way things are now."

Given that Ruffa is now very much single and available, the public is curious to know if the 1993 Ms. World 2nd Runner-up is ready for a new love.

"If you're asking me if I'm ready to have a serious relationship, definitely not. If I'm ready to meet new friends and speak, definitely! Why not? But to have a serious relationship, that is far from my mind. Honestly, can I heal first?"

Does this mean that she hasn't been distracted by possible suitors?

"I haven't been. I think right now I use my mind over my heart and ‘yan ang dapat kong gawin next time kasi I have two little girls [Lorin and Venice], and I think the most important thing is their welfare, their future. Siguro one day if ever I will get distracted, obviously, I'm still young, madi-distract din naman ako sooner or later. Kailangan, I just have to be discreet and be careful kasi ayoko naman ipangalandakan kaagad sa mundo."

Still on the topic of suitors, Ruffa was asked to name how many guys have been making their presence felt in her life. She candidly replied, "No, I don't wanna count! Kahit maraming nagpapalipad-hangin, kina-cut ko right away. Marami nang nagpasabi and everything, but I would just rather be friends first kasi ‘di pa ako ready, e. Number one, I don't have the time so ayoko muna."

Ruffa concluded the interview by saying, "Tama na muna ang pag-ibig. I'll focus on my career na iniwan ko just to live in Istanbul."
