They say life begins at 40. That holds true for actress-TV host Lani Mercado as she enters a new phase in her personal life.
Last night, April 12, Lani celebrated her 40th birthday at The Palms Country Club in Alabang, Muntinlupa City together with her family, close friends and relatives. Standing beside Lani for most of the evening was her husband, actor-senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., who became emotional a couple of times during the party.
Aside of course from the celebration, the couple chose the occasion to publicly announce the upcoming wedding of their 18-year-old daughter Inah to her non-showbiz boyfriend Vince del Rosario. Inah, as revealed by Lani to the press, is almost four months pregnant.
"Noong una kong nalaman ang una kong tanong sa kanya [Inah] ‘What are your plans?' So, nagsabi naman ‘yong dalawa na gusto nilang magpakasal and at that point alam ko 23 si Vince, hindi na siya minor ganun din naman si Inah, she's already 18 kumbaga masasabi na nating of legal age na so they could decide at that point kung ano talaga ang gusto nila sa buhay," explained Lani on Inah and Vince's decision to tie the knot.
The wedding is set on May 28 at the Manila Cathedral.
FAMILY AFFAIR. Right from the start, it was pretty obvious that the event was intended to be an intimate affair among the Revilla's closest friends and family members.
Lani's Moms co-hosts Manilyn Reynes and Sherilyn Reyes were in attendance as well as Regal Entertainment matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde and German "Kuya Germs" Moreno. William Martinez also came together with his lovely wife Yayo Aguila. Veteran actor Tirso Cruz III was accompanied by his wife Lyn Ynchausti and their kids. The always-present Ricky Davao was also in tow and as usual gamely dished out two songs for the celebrant.
As expected, Lani's children came in full force and everyone rendered a special song number for their mother. Hubby Bong sang their official theme song "Ikaw." Incidentally, the couple will be celebrating their 22 years of marriage on May 28, the same date chosen by Inah as her wedding date.
Bong and Lani candidly acknowledged the trials they went through and continue to go through as a married couple. But as Lani said, if there's one thing she's extremely proud of, it's the fact that she and Bong have managed to keep their family intact despite the odds.
Lani admits that Inah's unexpected pregnancy is another challenge for them to face and overcome but she's very optimistic that everything will turn out fine in the end. To show that the entire Revilla wholeheartedly accepts the situation, Lani amiably called Vince to join the family in front of all the guests as a sign of oneness and solidarity.
