Vhong Navarro and Toni Gonzaga teased and cracked jokesabout each other, making director Cathy Garcia-Molina laugh sohard that tears welled up in her eyes. The media witnessed the lively exchangeof the two stars during the press conference of My Only U last night,October 9, at the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City.
Three years after appearing together in the comedy D'Anothers(2005), Vhong and Toni are back in each other's arms as a love team in My Only U.
Toni revealed that her leading man in My Only U often gave her small tokens assweet gestures. More than that, Vhong even gave her a huge bed as a gift."Pinaka-expensive na binigay sa akin ni Vhong yung kama na malaki. Si DirekCathy, binili rin niya. Minsan, nagpapabili rin siya ng food."
The night was a trip down memory lane for Vhong and Toni as they talkedabout the times when they were really close, especially, duringtheir Wazzup Wazzup days. They used to see each other on the setalmost every day.
Why did they not fall for each other during this time?
Aminin mo yun, Vhong. Sasobrang lovable niya...
Vhong: Si Toni at that time, masyado siyang bagets atkatabi niya lagi ang parents niya, e.
Does this mean that Vhong is not someone to be proud of?
Toni: Puwedeng-puwede naman talaga si Vhong... Mabait, maalalahanin.
Vhong: Bakit di mo sinabi 'yan nung wala kang boyfriend?
So, pinapakita ko yung totoo ako. 'Pag nanliligaw ka kasi...
Toni: E, sa presinto ka magpaliwanag!
Direk Cathy, who was seated between Vhong and Toni, could only laugh andshake her head at the banter between her two stars. But she agreed with Toni'sobservation.
Toni continued listing the qualities that she liked most about her leading man. "I admire Vhong's respect for my parents. Ang dami ko pang responsibilidad, andin fairness to Vhong, very supportive and very concerned siya. 'Pag may problemaako, kahit 3 a.m. tumatawag ako kay Vhong, sasagot ‘yan. Proven and tested ko napo iyan."
Toni and Vhong were both "newscasters" of the comedic news program WazzupWazzup, which aired on Studio 23. When asked what they missed most abouteach other, Toni replied, "Na-miss ko ang company ni Vhong. Since every day kamimagkasama, nakaka-miss na every day siyang nandiyan sa tabi mo na pwede mongkalabitin."
She further describes her friendship with Vhong: "We knowhow to push each other's buttons... Alam namin ang strengths and weaknesses ngisa't isa."
PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Toni, if she had become thegirlfriend of Vhong, what would it be like?
Parehokaming up."
Did they have a mutual understanding (MU) in the past?
"No.
Did she have feelings for Vhong before?
Toni admitted that Vhong dropped hints that he wanted to court her, but he did notpush through with it.
If Vhong had courted her in the past, would Toni have agreed to be hisgirlfriend?
"Siguro kung dati, malamang, pero hindi natinmasasabi. Basta masaya kami kung ano man ang meron kami ngayon," she ended theinterview with a smile.
My Only U, starring Toni and Vhong, will open in cinemas starting October 29.
