After a year of long-distance relationship, Rufa Mae Quinto and Mexican-American boyfriend Bobby Lopez are no longer a couple.
It will be remembered that it was in Showbiz Central when Rufa Mae first introduced Bobby to TV viewers. Since then, the two have become serious in their relationship even if both lived oceans apart from each other.
The last time the two of them were seen together was at the premiere night of I.T.A.L.Y., where rumors later circulated that Bobby became jealous of Dennis Trillo, Rufa Mae's co-star.
As far as the public knew, everything was going fine. Then Rufa Mae suddenly admitted that she and Bobby are no longer together and that he had broken up with her through email.
"Wala naman choice, di ba?" said Rufa Mae, keeping her tone casual.
Was it just distance that tore up Rufa Mae and Bobby's relationship—or was it more? Showbiz Central's co-host Mo Twister interviewed Rufa Mae earlier today, November 2, to find out whether there was more to the story of Rufa Mae's heartache.
Is Rufa Mae heartbroken right now?
"I'm okay," said Rufa Mae, not her usual hyper self. "Steady lang, ganyan. I'm used to being alone din naman kasi long-distance relationship, so mahirap naman ipilit ang bagay-bagay kung hindi pa para sa iyo, di ba?"
Is true that Bobby broke up with her just like that—and through email?
Shooting, at kung ano-ano pa," Rufa Mae answered, still in the same casual tone.
Time and schedules were big factors, Rufa Mae said. The two of them had different schedules due to the different time zones of their respective countries. This made communication difficult.
"At first, na-hurt ako, pero nag usap na kami," she said.
Was the email direct? What did it contain?
"Mahabang-mahaba," said Rufa Mae. "Hindi ko muna binasa. Siguro after a week ko pa binasa. Finally, sabi ko na basahin ko nga. Bandang dulo na lang yung binasa ko. Ang importante doon ay nag-usap na kami noong the other day."
What did Bobby say?
"Sabi ko na, ‘You don't do that.'
NOT BECAUSE OF DENNIS. Was it true that Bobby got jealous of Dennis Trillo?
Wala siyang pinagselosan."
So it just means that time was the factor behind the breakup?
Does Rufa Mae feel that she's partly to blame for their breakup?
"Actually, siguro din naman," she replied. "I am not perfect. Minsan sa showbiz ‘pag stressed ka and everything, at least when you go home, may kasama ka."
Is she lonely now that she's single?
"I'm good," answered Rufa Mae. At least, I tried yung long distance and I think I'm willing to try it, e."
What's her message to Bobby?
The good news, said Rufa Mae, is that Bobby realized his mistake and told her he was going to do everything to make it up to her.
"I guess, tingnan pa rin natin," Rufa Mae said in closing. And all the time she was talking, she kept flashing a smile and keeping things light—like the great entertainer she always is.
