Sarah Geronimo shines in her third major concert "The Next One"

John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo thrilled the crowd as they exchanged witty remarks about each other during the Popstar Princess' third major concert titled The Next One.

Practically every seat in the Araneta Coliseum was occupied by the time Sarah Geronimo started her concert at around 8:45 p.m. last Saturday, November 8. The Popstar Princess hardly left the stage during her two-hour show dubbed as The Next One.

Serving as her front act were the Cercado Sisters, the newest Viva artists who recently came out with their album titled The Cercados. Composed of Almira, Irene, Mylene, and Celina, the quartet brought honor to the country when they took home 16 medals during the 2006 World Championship of Performing Arts. They impressed the crowd with their high-pitched rendition of "He Loves Me," "Paraiso," "Alam Ko, Alam Mo" and the ditty that they consider as their theme song, "Pangarap na Bituin."

The crowd went wild when Sarah finally came out wearing a white trenchcoat, a halter top, and ankle-high boots. Fans of Sarah, who call themselves POPsters, were a sight to behold in their white t-shirts and colorful LED lights that set them apart from everyone in the crowd. They occupied several rows and were often seen dancing to the tune of the upbeat songs performed by their idol.

She started off by giving a powerful rendition of " Forever's Not Enough" before drawing the crowd in with her "How Could You Say You Love Me." Smoke then filled the stage and as it cleared, teen star Rayver Cruz danced briefly with Sarah before their other ASAP co-stars, Maja Salvador and Shaina Magdayao, entered the stage to render a dance number.

Sarah launched into another energetic number for the song "That's Not My Name" before she addressed the crowd composed of kids, parents, and even grandparents. "Napakasarap po ng pakiramdam! Salamat po at third time ko na dito pero hindi pa rin kayo nagsasawa."

The pop singer had two previous concerts at the Big Dome titled The Other Side (2005) and Sarah Geronimo in Motion (2007).

"Limang taon na rin po ako sa entertainment business pero ramdam na ramdam ko po ang pagmamahal ninyong lahat. Singing is my passion ever since I was a little girl. Hangga't may musika akong ibabahagi, nandito po ako," she promised to her numerous fans.

As a way of saying thank you to her fans, she sang "Ikaw" which has lyrcis that go: "Dahil ikaw lamang ang hindi lumisan / Tunay na kaibigan lagi kang nandyan / O ikaw lamang ang hindi nang-iiwan / Nararapat lang ika'y pasalamatan."

Another WCOPA grand winner, Jed Madela, was a guest of Sarah that night. He sang "Ikaw ang Pangarap," which served as the theme song of the ABS-CBN show Lobo.

The two teased each other good-naturedly regarding their respective crushes. Jed said that Sarah is smitten by a young man who dances well and whose name begins with the letter "R." Not to be outdone, Sarah replied that she also knew about Jed's crush whose name starts with the letter "L."

After their teasing, Sarah went back to work by engaging in a dance showdown with Billy Crawford. They moved rapidly across the stage as they fired up the crowd with Rihanna's hit song "Don't Stop the Music."

Billy also gave encouraging words for the rising star. "Alam mo, Sarah isa ako sa milyon-milyon mong fans. I've told you this, you're awesome, you're amazing...

"Every time na nagpe-perform tayo, masaya ako. You are so blessed kaya sinasabi ko sa ‘ ‘yo, Sarah, you are "The One.'" Sarah accepted his compliment with a big smile. Before Billy left, he performed his signature song "Bright Lights."

The concert also served as a way of promoting the upcoming movie Baler, the official entry of Viva Films in this year's Metro Manila Film Fest. As Sarah sang the theme song "Ngayon, Bukas at Kailanman," clips of the period film were shown on the giant screen. Lead stars Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis (both of whom attended the concert) watched the war scenes and the kissing scenes that they taped for their upcoming movie.

Backstreet Boy member Howie Dorough also took time to help Sarah for her third major concert. He pre-taped the song "I'll Be There" and the Popstar Princess sang it along with him during one segment of the show. It is also included in Sarah's latest album titled Just Me.

KILIG MOMENTS. But the highlight of the show would have to be Sarah's segment with her leading man John Lloyd Cruz for the movie A Very Special Love. As Sarah sang the theme song of their romantic movie, the matinee idol came out bringing red roses, much to the delight of the crowd.

"Thank you, Sir Miggy [John Lloyd's character], napadaan ka," said Sarah, who played his secretary named Laida.

"Oo naman, pa-kiss nga!" Throughout their exchange, John Lloyd tried to steal a kiss from Sarah while she deftly avoided his advances.

They also repeated some lines from their blockbuster movie when John Lloyd said, "Dapat mukha tayong close," and Sarah immediately responded by saying, "Sir, gaano ka-close?"

The two stars brought the best in each other as JLC brought out Sarah's kengkoy side and she brought out the musical side of the matinee idol. In fact, John Lloyd had his time to shine when he sang the song "Ngiti."

For her finale, Sarah belted out "I Believe I Can Fly" with the U.P. Concert Chorus.

When PEP interviewed choreographer Georcelle Dapat right after the show, she said that she and Sarah had been rehearsing for the past month. "Si Sarah, bungisngis yan e, pero ngayon alam na niya kung paano i-control ang pagtawa niya."

Aside from Anne and Jericho, Luis Manzano and KC Concepcion were also present at the Araneta Coliseum for Sarah's successful concert. Erik Santos, Rachelle Anne Go, and Mark Bautista also showed their support for their fellow singer.
