The Star for All Seasons will wear her dancing shoes again!
Batangas Governor Vilma Santos will be seen on television again for the five-part TV special titled Vilma: A Woman for All Seasons. She had a press conference for her comeback on television last night, July 22, at the 9501 restaurant in ABS-CBN.
This show, which will air every Saturday at 9:30 p.m. on ABS-CBN, will be presented as a documentary-magazine and reality TV format. The five-weekend special will feature her as an award-winning actress (August 1); TV host, dancer and performer (August 8); mother and wife (August 15), and as a governor of Batangas (August 22). The final episode on August 29 will focus on her upcoming film In My Life, which also stars her son Luis Manzano and John Lloyd Cruz. The crew of Vilma joined the cast members in New York where they filmed the movie for three weeks.
Ate Vi became known for her dance routine in her defunct musical-variety show Vilma!. At the presscon for her by ABS-CBN last night, July 22, she narrated that she danced her famous routine but only "for fun."
Sabi ko kasi, the worst that can happen ay iko-compare pa nila yung dati 'saka yung ngayon."
She excitedly recalled, "Pero dun sa workshop, bumigay ako doon. I love dancing talaga. I need dancing."
Since one part of the TV special will show Ate Vi as a dancer, she was asked to comment on the growing popularity of Manny Pacquiao's mother, Mommy Dionisia, who likes ballroom dancing.
"I love her!" gushed the Star for All Seasons. "In fact, parang naging inspirasyon ko siya dito sa In My Life. Yung walang pakialam, kahit anong gusto niyang sabihin, sasabihin niya. Kaya I love her, gusto ko siya."
LONGTIME DREAM. Ate Vi has portrayed many different roles during her more than four-decade career in the showbiz industry—heroine, kontrabida, burlesque dancer, mistress, nun, among others—but the one thing she still wants to do is movie directing.
But she was quick to point out that she already directed a telemovie for GMA-7 in the past. Titled Lazarito, it starred Dawn Zulueta and Ariel Rivera.
Lesson learned: dapat pala ang dami mo talagang dapat [i-shoot]."
VILMA PRAISES NORA. During her master class with the young stars of ABS-CBN, Ate Vi explained how celebrities today are very lucky.
Ngayon, may TFC [The Filipino Channel].
Ate Vi also enumerated the celebrities that she looks up to. "Si Nora, kasi let's face it, kahit anong sabihin n'yo, phenomenon yun. The others are Dindo Fernando, Jay Ilagan..." (Both actors with whom Vilma worked in several movies have already passed away.)
The Star for All Seasons also commended her favorite leading man Christopher de Leon for being a very effective partner in the past.
EDU MANZANO. In a previous interview, Edu Manzano told PEP that he felt bad when he learned that he will no longer be part of his ex-wife's upcoming film In My Life. (Click HERE to read related article.)
During the presscon proper, Governor Vi explained that management decided to pull out Edu from the project because they wanted him to have a bigger role in the future.
Nanghinayang ako, siyempre, pero meron pa naman in the future," she said.
