The Aquino family, through Kris Aquino, made a statament to express their gratitude to the Filipino people for showing their love and affection for former President Corazon Aquino, who passed away last August 1, after a one-year-and-a-half battle with colon cancer.
Kris read the statement, which they also intend to release in newspapers, on her showbiz-oriented show SNN last night, August 10.
Here is the the statement of the Aquino family with some personal comments by Kris herself:
"Sa mga minamahal naming kababayan,
"We know of no greater honor than the love and affection that you have bestowed upon our mother, Cory Aquino. From the gallant efforts of her doctors in fighting her cancer, to the gentle care of the hospital staff in easing her discomfort and respecting her privacy.
"From the tireless efforts of the organizers and volunteers who set up logistics and main venues, to the unheralded donors who kept the supplies coming.
"From the Christian brothers and the Archbishop of Manila who readily made their facilities available. And to the Philippine Armed Forces and National Police who vigilantly watched over Mom and escorted her to her final resting place.
"Para po sa lahat ng participants who prayed silently, spoke so eloquently, and sang so beautifully. To all the audience, lahat po ng mga nanood, who stayed tuned to their TVs, radios, pati na sa mga Internet connections. To the countless acts of kindness, generosity, and devotion which were poignantly captured by a free press... Kailangan kong i-emphasize 'yon... Ang big difference ng burial ng Dad [Ninoy Aquino] at ni Mom, malaya tayong puwedeng maghayag at puwede nating ibahagi sa buong mundo ang nagaganap. But most especially po, the Filipino people who braved the elements for hours on end to pay their last respects and joined in the procession.
"May I add, kanina napanood ko sa TV Patrol 'yong mga nagpi-field trip na mga eskuwelahan para magbigay ng respeto sa Mom at sa Dad dahil 'yon lang ang tanging paraan para maipamahagi ang history nating mga Pilipino at para mapangalagaan natin ang ating demokrasya.
"Kami po, ang pamilya Aquino, we offer the humble gratitude of a Filipino family. Siguro ilang beses ko nang inulit 'yon, kami po ay kagaya ninyo, pamilya kami. We mourn our mother's loss, but we take great comfort in the love of a nation reunited.
"Maraming, maraming salamat po at sana magpatuloy tayo sa ating pagkakaisa. We're very sad. But we are trying our very best talaga.
"I'd like to say thank you, ang dami kong text message na natanggap also before coming here na wishing me good luck sa pagbabalik sa SNN, dahil alam nga nila noong nabanggit ko na hahanapin ko 'yon sa Mom. Salamat sa compassion, for honoring our pain, like they always say. Thanks for caring about us. Talaga namang it matters so much to our family."
