Joem Bascon refuses to talk about relationship with Meryll Soriano

"Siguro respeto na lang din sa family niya, sa anak niya, na talagang for me ayaw ko na silang masama o madawit sa kung anuman ang mapag-uusapan," Joem Bascon explains why he's keeping quiet about his current relationship with Meryll Soriano.

"Madamot akong tao when it comes to love, when it comes to my girlfriend," jested young actor Joem Bascon when asked about his relationship with actress Meryll Soriano.

Just like his girlfriend, Joem did not want to talk about his romantic relationship with the daughter of Wowowee host Willie Revillame during the press conference of his upcoming indie film, A Journey Home. (Click here to read related article.)

Joem explained, "Ako din, gusto kong protektahan 'yong relasyon namin. I never talked about it.

"I'm a very private person with regard to my relationship. Kasi, it's something na keeps me grounded as a person. Whether it's a showbiz or non-showbiz person, hindi ako talaga magsasalita about it."

That was also why he wouldn't comment on Willie's approval of his daughter's relationship with Joem.

When asked what Willie could have seen in Joem that made him like him for his daughter, Joem just smiled and humbly said, "Wala akong masabi kung hindi salamat."

He added that maybe it was because he showed his real personality to Meryll.

"Siguro, without Meryll or Willie, I'm speaking for myself, ever since naman wala naman akong masamang intention or masamang ginawa para masabi na hindi ako sa tao. It's just that kung ano talaga 'yong kung sino ako dati.

During the interview, Joem tried hard to avoid answering questions about him and Meryll. In fact, when asked if he is close to the young actress' son with Bernard Palanca, he replied, "Hindi ako makapagsalita about our relationship kasi nga mayroon siyang family. It's more of me and my work lang talaga."

CHALLENGING FATHER ROLE. Joem diverted the topic to his upcoming movie A Journey Home, which was independently produced by Jubilee Evangelical Church and will have its one-day-only screening on October 3 at SM Megamall Cinemas 8, 9, and 10.

Joem plays the role of a father in this movie, which he considers as very challenging because he hasn't experienced it yet.

"It's more of the story inside sa bahay natin instead of tackling more offbeat roles like naging adik ako sa isang film, naging kubrador. Ngayon, it's different kasi may anak na ako dito. Mayroon na akong nagawang may asawa, pero right now it's my first na magkaroon ng anak. May scenes kasi with my sons [John Manalo] and daughter [Cha Canete]," described Joem.

He admitted that giving life to the character of Raffy wasn't easy. He acknowledged his director Paul Soriano for helping him out in getting the motivation for every scene that he did.

"Actually, no role is easy naman for any actor. It's a very challenging role."

He noted at the end, "Every role, every time na pumasok ako, parang it's a different shoe to fill in kasi iba-iba nga ang character na ginagawa ko."
