Young actress-singer Arci Muñoz is planning to audition next year for Binibining Pilipinas. According to the StarStruck alumna, joining a prestigious beauty pageant was a childhood dream she temporarily had to let go in favor of a showbiz career.
"Magte-train muna ako, ayokong sumaling half-baked," Arci told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during a recent lunch interview at Aresi restaurant in Quezon City.
"Kasi gusto nila parang this year na ako sumali, sabi ko, 'Ayoko kasi hindi pa ako ready.' Ayoko naman ng ganun bigla na lang ako sasali, nakakahiya naman," continued Arci, who added that she's presently studying beauty pageant basics on her own in preparation for 2011.
As a young girl growing up, Arci recalled, she watched in awe as beautiful women from around the globe paraded right in front of an adoring international audience.
"Lagi kong sinasabi sa sarili ko na kaya ko," the 21-year-old actress remembers telling herself repeatedly while imagining herself waving gracefully to the crowd.
BLESSING IN DISGUISE. Arci's self-motivation extends to everything that she does. Even her painful breakup with first boyfriend, Callalily vocalist Kean Cipriano, turned out to be a source of inspiration when in front of the camera.
She could particularly relate to her role as a lawyer fighting for the love of her man in GMA-7's Almost A Love Story, topbilled by Rhian Ramos and TJ Trinidad.
"'Yong mga sinasabi ko, wala na sa script... 'yong talagang sarili ko na lang talagang linya," she revealed.
Arci's separation from Kean was a bitter one, with the latter allegedly instigating the breakup for no apparent reason. The singer-actress even appeared on national television to air her feelings about the fallout.
Nowadays, however, Arci said that she's ready to put the incident behind her: "There's so much in life to enjoy. While you are young and single just make the most out of it. Madaming bagay na kailangan kong maranasan before entering another relationship."
She added, "Kasi ako 'yong tipong pag nagmahal, mahal ko talaga and he was my first boyfriend. Wala naman akong masasabi, nung magkasama kami there's so many good memories talaga na nangyari. So, wala akong masasabi against him."
Arci never experienced celebrating Valentine's Day with a significant other. With the collapse of her seven-month relationship, she finds herself alone again this love month of February.
"Ngayong Valentine's siguro I'm gonna spend time with my family kasi na-miss ko rin maki-hangout sa daddy ko. Kasi naalala ko pa nung New Year, I was so sad talaga tapos sabi ng dad ko, 'What's happening? Cheer up, it's Christmas.' Tapos sabi ko, 'I'm okay.' Tapos sabi niya, 'If you don't have a date, I'm gonna be your date,' and then naglagay siya ng CD and nagpatugtog siya and we danced and I started crying. Sabi ko sa sarili ko, ito ang mami-miss ko pag nag-boyfrend ulit ako."
