Paolo Bediones says talents from other stations have sent feelers to join TV5

As one of TV5's executives, Paolo is in the thick of planning new programs that will make the station the "third force" in the industry.

CHALLENGES FOR PRESIDENTIABLES.

"The transition was pretty smooth. I've been away from television... regular TV na may program talaga ako for about four months and excited ako kasi next week nga, magsisimula na yung bagong program ko. The title is USI (Under Special Investigation).

"So, ako yung parang usisero. Ang first topic namin will be the presidentiables. So, two presidentiables a week. This will be different kasi may mga challenges na ia-undergo yung mga presidentiables.

"Kasi most of the interviews that you see, mga debates or yung mga questions sobrang serious. Not to say na hindi seryoso yung interviews namin, pero dito you'll see pati yung mga pagkatao nila, kung paano makihalubilo sa mga tao, kung ano ang reaksyon nila pag may mga challenges na gagawin. It's still along the reality line pero marami tayong mapupulot sa kanila. A lot of details kung paano tayo makakapili ng pangulo," kuwento ni Paolo.

ON-CAM WORK. Na-miss niya ba ang paglabas sa TV?

"Ako sobrang na-miss ko ang TV. I've been guesting-guesting. Nagpipigil ako but siyempre, once you're there mahirap mawala, e. Kaya nga when I started doing USI, nag-enjoy ako, e."

Sino na ang mga presidentiable na-interview niya for the show?

"So far na-interview ko na sina Jamby Madrigal, Eddie Villanueva, Dick Gordon, JC delos Reyes. I'll be doing Gibo [Teodoro] next, and then si Nicky Perlas. Sina Manny Villar and Noynoy [Aquino] naka-line up na rin."

Since meron siyang ganitong show, ibig sabihin ba ay hindi siya puwedeng mag-endorse ng kandidato for the May 2010 elections?

"Definitely not, no, no, no. Ang news and public affairs is very strict about endorsing candidates. But ang main focus talaga namin is to be objective as much as possible para ibigay natin sa mga tao na heto yung mga presidentiables natin. Ito yung mga nakalap naming information. On endorsing a presidential candidate, I've never done it and I can't do it now. Definitely not now."

TWO MORE SHOWS FOR PAOLO. Bukod sa USI na mapapanood na simula sa March 14, may dalawang upcoming shows pa raw si Paolo sa TV5.

"The second show is an entertainment show which will start in April. And the third one will start when I think about it. Kasi kino-conceptualize pa namin, e. But it's under entertainment. Pero puwede pa rin akong mag-game show, puwede pa rin akong mag-talk show. Gusto ko to have a show with Mo Twister and kasama rin si Ryan [Agoncillo], ang saya nun.

"Definitely yung sa showbiz, puwedeng celebrity talk show. Pero in terms yung sa mga tsismis, we'll leave that kina Ruffa [Gutierrez, na bagong lipat sa TV5], Cristy Fermin, and Mo Twister [magsasama ang tatlo sa isang showbiz talk show]. And then of course, sina Alex [Gonzaga] and IC [Mendoza] of Juicy. They're good at what they do. So, excited ako para sa kanila. Sobra."

ON BEING A NETWORK HONCHO. As a TV5 executive, ano talaga yung position niya sa network?

"Well, I'll be announcing that sa coming presscon. They are not allowing me to announce it now for whatever reasons. But the idea is there naman. It deals with the creative side of production, at the same time with the training and development of talents and the new shows, not just in the news and public affairs department but also in the entertainment. So, ganun yung scope of responsibility.

"And then every now and then like for example, may pitch tayo for a movie kasi plano rin ng TV5 na gumawa ng pelikula, yung Studio 5. We're trying to put that up and that's something I can also put my hand on. Kasi may mga alam... may hilig din tayo sa mga pelikula, e.

"But right now, I can say very blessed ako. Kasi sina Sir Bob [Bobby Barrero, TV5 president], Rey [Espinosa, CEO], MVP [Manny V. Pangilinan, chairman], they are very aggressive, e. Yung priority talaga nila is yung growth ng network into a third force sa industriya natin."

"You know what, the great thing about it was walang masyadong naging intriga dahil naging transparent naman ako and very smooth, e. Kumbaga walang gulatang nangyari. Talagang nagpaalam ako and they understood. Nakita nila kung ano yung ino-offer ng TV5 sa akin at nakita nila na hindi nila maibibigay yun, primarily because nandun na yung istraktura sa GMA, nandun na yung mga pillars.

"What TV5 is offering me is something fresh and that is what I'm looking for. To have a position din in the network is a very big deal for me. You know, to have a say... although before meron din, but now kumbaga we're legitimatizing it. And then there's something more that I'm excited to talk about pero ayaw pa nga nilang ipasabi. It's about the new show, it's so out of my character. It's that much that I can say for now."

Nang matanong naman kung sino ang nakikita niyang papalit sa kanya bilang host ng iniwan niyang Survivor Philippines, ang sagot si Paolo ay, "Siguro I'm not in the position na to answer that question. It's up to GMA na."

ACCUSATIONS OF PIRACY.

And if you'll talk to them, hindi dahil sa pera-pera yun. It's about the opportunity."

"Well, you know, it's an open industry right now. There are no rules na bawal mamirata or bawal ano. But in fairness to TV5, we do not pirate. What we do is we wait for resumés and they let us know that they are interested. And that's when we make a move."

"I get about 15 resumés a day, every day. I get calls and tweets every day mula sa mga kasama natin sa industriya asking kung may space ba rito. And I tell them, 'Sige, I'll look into it.' Sa ngayon kasi ang hinahanap ng TV5 are the pillars, e. Kaya nga we have Dolphy, we have Maricel [Soriano], we have Vic Sotto, and then Ruffa Gutierrez and the rest. Although they are not exclusive talents, their commitment naman dun sa shows nila is undeniable. And the quality of work they can give is undeniable din.

"So, two ways 'yan e. You have pillars and then you have yung mga baguhan na ide-develop namin and hopefully give them a fighting chance in showbiz."

"Usually, yes. Kasi when you say exclusive, it means you cannot come out sa other stations aside from TV5. Ayaw naman naming higpitan ang mga stars right now kasi we need them and they need us, too."

DOLPHY'S STATEMENT.

"Not at all because we understand his reasons that he wanted to work. And noong gumawa kami ng concept, pasok siya. So, nung magkaroon kami ng shoot for the station ID all the stars were there. Si Dolphy nandun, sina Ruffa Gutierrez, Vic Sotto, Mo Twister, Cristy Fermin were there. It just means that these people recognize na mukha rin sila ng TV5. They can appear on other channels but depende pa rin sa mangyayari naman, e. When the network gets bigger and bigger, then doon na siguro papasok yung usapang exclusivity.

"And right now sinasabi ng mga tao, naglipatan because of the talent fee. That's so unfair sa talent dahil sinasabing mukha siyang pera. And it's suicide sa network. Imagine-in mo kung lahat ng talents kinuha dahil sa pera, e, di wala nang pera ang TV5. Kasi wala pa kaming shows na ineere, e, so wala pa kaming ibinebenta. So, papatayin mo yung network mo kung ganun ang usapan. Ang masasabi ko lang, lahat ng desisyon ay pinag-isipan."

JC DE VERA. Usap-usapan na rin na diumano'y lilipat na rin si JC de Vera sa TV5. Gaano ito katotoo?

"Ang alam ko his contract ends on March 15. So, he has to finish whatever he has to do with GMA. If he has to finish Panday Kids, he has to finish that."

"Let's just say na two-way siya. He's has the talent and he's looking for a different venue. And let's see, parang ganun, e. Right now, kumbaga March 15, we have to wait for that day. And then let's see. Like Ruffa, she has two more weeks sa The Buzz, di ba? She was able to announce only the other day that she is now with TV5. With JC naman, we're waiting for him to decide or Tita Annabelle [Rama, JC's manager] to decide."

"He's very talented. I've worked with him in Captain Barbell. He was my son. So, talent-wise, look-wise, he's very bankable."
