Mark Bautista speaks up about his "short-lived" romance with Rufa Mae Quinto

Mark Bautista's transfer to GMA-7 went smoothly, and his first appearance in Party Pilipinas went without a hitch. However, he has no escape from Showbiz Central as rumors old and new are presented to the young singer and such issues need answering right away!

Mark Bautista's recent transfer to GMA-7 spewed intrigues about his going back to the Kapuso station after years of being a Kapamilya.

The young crooner appeared live on Showbiz Central yesterday, March 28, to answer such issues and more, including his rumored romantic relationship with Rufa Mae Quinto.

SWITCHING NETWORKS. The past months featured ABS-CBN stars switching to GMA-7, including Claudine Barretto, Bayani Agbayani, and Joross Gamboa. The starts mentioned had their own reasons for transferring, of course. Mark, however, had it different with a rumor circulating that he transferred to avoid intrigues.

"Unang-una sa lahat, mga intriga naman kahit saan ka pumunta, e susundan ka namam," Mark said. "Sa paglipat ko ng station, e, it was actually my manager's decision. Noong diniscuss nila sa akin, nag-agree na din ako. Nararamdam ko naman din na ikabubuti ito ng career ko. In-embrace ko na lang at ito na nga, nandito na ako. Winelcome naman ako ng GMA, so nagpapasalamat ako."

SHORT-LIVED ROMANCE. SC co-host Rufa Mae Quinto admitted that she and Mark indeed had a short-lived romance. Mark, on the other hand, related their first meeting to the reason why they did not end up as lovers.

"Actually, concert ko 'yon at nag-guest si P-chi [Rufa Mae's nickname]," said Mark. "Tapos ang sa amin ni P-chi, mas friendship 'yong sa amin, e. Nagpapasalamat ako dahil sa guesting niya at nagkaroon kami ng matibay na pundasyon sa friendship namin."

Rufa Mae, though she called it a short-lived romance earlier, concluded the story that she and Mark just ended up as friends.

"Naging friends naman tayo nang bongang-bonga, so na-develop tayo sa super friendship," Rufa said.

The next question came from Rufa Mae and she asked, "Is there anyone in particular ang nakakuha ng attention mo [sa GMA-7 talents]?"

Mark hesitated before answering, "Kung magbabanggit ba ako, may malisya ba?"

After getting a "no" from the hosts and a go signal, he smiled and said, "Si Iza Calzado. Friend ko din 'yon!"

THE GAY ISSUE. Apart from the issue about him being linked to Rufa Mae, there were rumors about Mark being gay. Since he was friends with other male singers and actors also rumored to be gay, can he say that he can finally end such an issue with whatever he was going to answer?

"As long as you are confident about yourself and your sexuality, I think there is no need for you to be worried," he said. "Ako naman, pinapabayaan ko na lang ang mga lumalabas. Siguro nag-e-enjoy sila sa ginagawa nila, so pabayaan na natin sila."
